Description

For Sidney Hale, rescuing dogs is more than a hobby. It’s a calling. A deep-seated need. An unstoppable compulsion. For reasons so unsettling, she shares them with no one…until she meets Decker. After coming to her rescue while Sidney battled to save a dog - literally - the gorgeous SEAL proves he can be trusted with her secrets, her safety…maybe even her heart.

Saving an abused pit bull from a suspected dog fighter brings Decker “Gumby” Kincade not only the dog he’s always wanted, but the first woman in ages to catch his interest. Sidney’s reason for rescuing Hannah, and animals like her, is shocking…but it makes Gumby want her even more. Her harrowing past has made her the strong, brave, compassionate woman she is today. She could be The One…if Gumby can help curb her habit of putting herself squarely in danger’s path.

But he may be too late. Hannah’s previous owner is enraged over her loss…and looking for revenge.

*Securing Sidney is the second book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

This story examines the stark reality of dogfighting and other animal abuse, and includes brief descriptions that may be unpleasant for some listeners.

I am so darn glad to be done with this book.

Overall, I like Susan Stoker and her books are an auto buy for me. Most of the time I’ll listen to the story imore than once.

This story, though, not so much. In fact, I’ll be returning it to get my credit back. I just did not like the heroine. I know she was supposed to be great hero of dogs who was also vulnerable and harboring childhood issues. I get that. And I was willing to go with that theory for the first dog rescue. However, after the second and definitely by the third dog rescue, I thought this had to be the stupidest girl.

Her stupidity was so far gone that it was hard for me to finish this book. Seriously, I could only listen to it in small doses before I was done. It took days for me to finish this book. I did finish it, though, I don’t feel any measure of happiness as I usually do when finishing a romance especially by a favorite author.

I was relieved to be done. It’s not just the stupid heroine, though, that made it hard to listen. It was the narrators male voices, especially the hero. Somehow she made him sound old and slightly constipated, not at all sexy.

MHO

This really is a good book/performance. But for me (tender heart for dogs), it was a little too graphic. I know it has a warning at the beginning,, but I tried it anyway. I enjoyed this couple's story.

Good read

Good book however, Sidney one of the main characters is very stupid. Just don't listen. I don't even know if she should have been rescued.

The handy woman gets the SEAL

Sydney Hale, handy woman and dog rescuer, met Decker ‘Gumby’ Kincaid when he came upon her fighting with the man who was mistreating a pit bull. When Gumby adopted the badly injured dog, Sydney’s heart melted a little...but she feels that she’s out of his league...after all, her baby brother is a notorious serial killer. Gumby is drawn to the brave, outspoken woman and the pair become fast friends. Can Gumby get past Sydney’s insecurities and show her that she’s worth loving? Will the dog fighters become more of a threat than imagined?
Another captivating story in this new series. Looking forward to more.

Engaging listen

I loved listening to Securing Sidney on audiobook. It had great narration, an engaging storyline, a swoon-worthy alpha hero, a heroine that I could like and root for, and Hannah, a rescue pit bull who was an absolute love bug!
Susan Stoker audiobooks are my go to listen when I need something I know will keep me entertained and invested.

Different plot

Cussing way too overdone, especially the f bomb. Sidney was a little too pathetic to attract a navy seal.

We are on a roll now...

Now this book had a little bit more excitement. While I appreciated and applauded Sidney’s devotion to animals, she was border lining on obsessive. Her traumatic childhood definitely played a part and I wish we delved into it a bit more, but her response to animals and disregard for her safety was a bit much. On the other hand, it gave us a lovely entrance for Gumby and his connection to Sid.

Great story..Gumby was more patient than any SEAL I’ve ever seen. Watching Sid put herself in danger again, was hard to see, but her recovery definitely cured her of her “run in first, think later” attitude. As always, the guys are always there to help rescue a damsel in distress. Another great story..

Pleasant and Enjoyable

Good characters, nice story with a reasonable amount of conflict. I especially liked the Scrappy female lead.

OMG!

Ok.. this book tested my limits of patience. I loved the authors graphic way of describing the scenes in the book, and the way the storyline unfolded. BUT...what got on my last nerve was the stupid female character..Sydney. OMG...that chic was stupid!! I am an animal lover too, but I'm not about to be that stupid, and selfish and put not only myself, but my new best friend, and new boyfriend in danger for my stupidity!!

Putting herself in harm's way for her stupid and selfish mental issues was too much. Decker deserved better, and I was really hoping that he'd dump her, because she was just dumb.

The fact that she was that reckless, and selfish, I was hoping that the dogs would tear her apart, and that Decker would kick her stupid tail to the curb! I know that sounds harsh...but seriously...she got on my LAST NERVE!! The irrational way of thinking, the disregard for her friend's life or safety, because she had a serial killer brother ....really??

She had a "Savior Complex" and a guilt that was just stupid, and that worked my nerve, and I was sick and tired of her by the last chapter. It's not the author, or the way she wrote the book.. it's the character and her stupidity that made me almost return the book!! I cant deal with stupid female characters in the books I read, and this one really tested me!! Weak, whiny, pathetic female characters drive me crazy!! And all of the women in the books of this series that I've read so far have been amazing...but Sydney...cant tolerate her stupidity!!
