Description
It's rule-breaker Emily Foster's birthday, and like everyone at The Jungle Room, she just wants to get some action. Unfortunately she stumbles on the wrong kind, witnessing a mob hit. To protect her, she's entered into the Witness Protection Program with by-the-book Special Agent Jake Ward as her chaperone.
When the location of their safe house is compromised, Jake stashes Emily deep in the Texas backwoods. The city-girl might be safe from the Mafia, but she has to contend with a psychotic rooster, a narcoleptic dog, crazy cowboys, and the danger of losing her heart to the one man she can't have.
Jake's as hot as he is infuriating, and she can't help but push all his buttons to loosen him up. Their mutual, sizzling sexual attraction poses a dilemma: Jake's determined to keep her safe and out of the wrong hands; she's determined to get into the right ones - his.

Awful!
The heroine in this book makes all women sound dumb, weak and selfish. I couldn't even finish it! Totally wasted purchase.

So bad, I was embarrassed to be listening to it.
The lead female character was an amalgamation of every negative stereotype you have ever heard about women. She is whiny, stupid, fearful, incompetent, nagging, fearful of spiders, etc. (though sexy, so that must make up for everything else). I honestly started to feel bad for the male lead, who I knew was going to get stuck getting together with this woman, which I am 99% sure happened, but I couldn't actually finish the book (despite this being my only book while I was out of the country without internet access). That's right, I sat in silence, rather than go on reading it.
The writing was sophomoric too. I just couldn't endure one more cliche (awakening to birds chirping - kinds of cliches). I was hoping for a fun beach read, so my expectations weren't high. Is the romance genre really this bad? Maybe I should quit my day job and start writing. My apologies to the author. I don't want to sound like one of those internet trolls who bashes everyone. I just really wish we could raise the bar in romance novels. Does every male lead really need to be a firefighter/cop/private detective/prince? If anyone is considering buying this book, I recommend the Outlander series instead. Great romance. Great writing.

Female lead kind of a dimwit
Ugh I am having a hard time writing this. I want to say I liked it. The first half was better than the second half, which fell flat.
It didn't help that the heroine does some really stupid things. I dislike it when a heroine jumps to conclusions and acts upon them without thought. It's really not a good plot device.
Also, every single time I heard the hero's name spoken, my brain added "from State Farm"
The book had it's moments, the narration was decent. The side characters felt more fleshed out that Jake and Emily, which is odd since you are in Emily head the whole time.
The sex is a bit flowery and light on the sexiness. So if you are looking for some steam, there is not a lot to be found here.

Frustrating
There was a lot of funny dialogue but the heroine allowing the continued verbal abuse by hero without calling it out and blaming herself became frustrating. I enjoy good verbal barbs when they are clever and equal. But constantly calling someone stupid without remorse is abuse.

I loved this story. It dragged a little but overall it was great. I hope Cowboy is the next Hero she writes about.

Wth
I abhorred the main character in this novel, multiple times I wanted to crawl into the book and slap her silly and stomp on her. She was immature, stupid and an attention whore. I know this is harsh but I literally wanted to slam my head against the wall… damn.

Immature female lead/ angry male lead
The female lead is infuriatingly hot-headed, immature and so antagonistic. Pair that with a male lead who has some anger and control issues and lashes out in the name of trying to protect an uncooperative victim. The romance aspect just seemed like the foundation for a toxic relationship with juvenile jibes and manipulation from her side and constant man handling from his side. On the one hand, the woman took too stupid to live to a whole other level with her selfish and reckless actions. On the other hand, there was so much questionable dialogue around consent eg "what if I don't want to" "I know you want to but you're just being difficult". And iffy dialogue around the way a woman is supposed to behave, like she was supposed to magically be a perfect southern belle. Overall, I found many parts of the story entertaining and enjoyed life on ranch and all the supporting characters who were well developed. But the frustrating interactions between the h and H could have been toned down a whole lot.

Funny, sweet romantic and suspense 5'stars
I love how it was Narrated and the Audiobook narrator and actor, Mackenzie Cartwright, was awesome. Perfectly Narrated and voice acted.
This made me laugh so so much. Aside from the hot romantics, there's this suspense and action, too. All there is to make an enjoyable and perfect read and Audiobook listen. I totally recommend this.
