The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Description
Brought to you by Penguin.
An unexpected quest. Two worlds at stake. Are you ready?
Days after winning OASIS Founder James Halliday's contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything.
Hidden within Halliday's vaults, waiting for his heir to find, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the OASIS a thousand times more wondrous - and addictive - than even Wade dreamed possible.
With it comes a new riddle and a new quest - a last Easter egg from Halliday, hinting at a mysterious prize.
And an unexpected, impossibly powerful and dangerous new rival awaits, one who'll kill millions to get what he wants.
Wade's life and the future of the OASIS are again at stake, but this time the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance.
Lovingly nostalgic and wildly original as only Ernest Cline could conceive it, Ready Player Two takes us on another imaginative, fun, action-packed adventure through his beloved virtual universe and jolts us thrillingly into the future once again.

Ready Player One was lightening in a bottle
This follow up to Ready Player One felt generic. It both felt like it was affected by the movie version of RP1 but also felt like the story had been thought about before the movie had been in production.
Ready Player Two didn’t go where I thought it would go, but I also didn’t like how generic the story felt. It felt like they could directly adapt this in a movie version but that isn’t a good thing. If you boiled the book down to its events, it could have been one third shorter.
The characters didn’t feel like they were the same characters from RP1. The choices they made didn’t feel like the choice of those from the first book. Art3mis was contradictory and Parzival was a down right A hole, and the swearing is this book was not warranted. I don’t mind swearing but the amount of it felt forced.
The performance saved the book for me from turning it off.
I didn’t like Cline’s second book Armada because it felt like this. You’ve heard this story played over countless times. You could chalk it up to Ready Player Two doing what is does with pop culture but The thing I loved about RP1 was that it was a unique story told with pop culture as a nice side plate.

Okay start, questionable villain, mediocre middle and brilliant ending!
The beginning was a bit depressing and stretched out, leaving the main quests squeezed. The villain was a bit questionable. The quests were pretty cool, just like listening to some video game quests that were very vivid. Will Wheaton is my hero with the voice of an angel. The ending was fantastic.

In this day and age of including everyone
I was really excited when i heard there was going to be a ready player 2. So I preordered it and listened to it immediately when it was delivered. I have to say I enjoyed most of the book. Some parts though seemed really forced. The thing that threw me off a lot was the feeling that the story was trying to please everyone or include everyone to the point that it was jarring. It was missing the many iconic geek culture and pop culture throwbacks like the first book, which i loved and listened to many many times. I am a child of the 80s so i loved the many references in ready player two. But I guess the bar was set really high in the first book. Once again Will Wheaton did an excellent job. Please give this book a read if you liked the first one, as it ties up many loose ends. Overall I recommend getting this book if you need a ready player one fix.

Can't wait for the Snyder Cut
I really liked most of it, but some parts of the quest were really long, and some others felt too short. The "let's talk about every minority ever" felt a little forced , and it didn't work very well, lot's of offended haters around the globe. Next time, make it about the original minority this book was about, the gamers and geeks. Can't wait for the Low Five spin-off, or the Arcadia one.

Great listen. A good sequel.
The plot is laid on pretty thick early on, so it becomes quite easy to piece together exactly what is going to happen.
The charm of the first book is somewhat missing from this one. It still has a charm or its own. The writing seems fairly stripped back and rather straight forward, but it is still a very entertaining listen/ read.
if you are a fan of the first novel you should still love this one also.

Missing the charm and nostalgia from the 1st book
Some of the conflicts felt a bit forced and pacing is quite bad. I managed to go through and enjoy RP1 fairly smoothly, even during the re-reads. I struggled to finish this one. I've finally finished it and I don't plan to revisiting again.
*spoilers*

Sure, it's a rehash of the first book. I loved the first book though! And the ending is much better this time round. Wil Wheaton is a great narrator as well. The only bit that dragged was the Prince bit. Otherwise, I'm ready player 3 already!

Eigentlich nochmal Teil 1 in neuen Worten

Wheatons back must heart
Wil Wheatons back must hurt from alle the carrying he did. The story is just an ok revisit of the first book and its whole idea and premise shows a lot of similarity to cyberpunk 2077. Unfortunately, cyberpunk did a much better job at telling a story and confronting people with such a theme.
The only redeeming quality and saviour from mediocrity is Wil Wheaton. Listening to his joyful and capturing performance makes this a fun ride that I can still recommend!

I was looking forward to it...
... but maybe too much?
It feels forced, I didn't get the easy and playful vibes, the joy of exploring the worlds and settings in the oasds and the outside world that i got from the first book.
Where the first one felt like an open world that you are exploring together with wade and his friends, this one is more like a straight tunnel that you stumble through, paying too much attention to the paint on the wall instead of the actual road you are taking (which is just straight ahead anyways)
The ending / epilogue is also quite drawn out and endless, so non-american users, be aware, you can skip most of the monologue at the end, it is just regurgitating the same idea for half an hour.

Just More Of The Same
First of all. Wil Wheaton - as always - does a great job.
Unfortunately, the story he has to read is not up to par.
I loved RP1 because the idea was new and quirky and exciting at the time.
The sequel could have been an exciting story about how the High4 plus Og or plus Lohengrin face and fight the demise of the real world, using technology, ideas and lessons learned. Instead we get just another treasure hunt with far too much deus ex machina involvement to solve the riddle and make sure everybody lives happily ever after.
RP1 was a book for adults who grew up in the 80ies and liked the clever combination of a classic anti-hero quest with 80ies sub culture cross references. RP2 is a book for kiddies who liked the RP1 movie (which to me also was a huge disappointment), but were never interested in more than popcorn munching while watching fancy pictures move.

Sadly an uninspired book
Compared to the ready player one this book seems over the top and boring at the same time. It simply does not create the same nostalgia and love 😔
Will as a narrator sadly is also a little bit boring compared to other great narrators Audible offers for other books.
