    Ooh Baby a Triple

Myers has done it again, with all three RWBY novels being absolutely amazing rides.

Whatever your thoughts on Neo and Roman prior to the novel, the opinions will become incredibly more positive if you were to listen to or read the story. What were originally characters only beloved for their looks and personas are made far more in depth by going into their histories. While I was more excited to learn about Neo going into the novel, Roman's side certainly captivated me more, though I can't say I'm complaining about either side at all. Neo's inner monologue works fantastically well in written format, and EC Myers did amazingly at capturing Roman's personality. There's a slight loose end between the novel's ending and a situation in the show proper, though not enough of one to detract from the quality of the story, or to make me think it can't be reasonably filled in through context clues or CRWBY statements. With everything that's happening in present-day RWBY show proper, this story was a bit refreshing with its more down to earth feel, which isn't to criticize present-day show proper at all since it's the best it's been thus far, it's just that it's nice to have a change.

I still feel like the decision to put Neo's origins into a novel is odd. Everyone who watches the show would agree she's the biggest mystery, but not everyone who watches consumes the side content like the novels. I don't know that the show will go over anything in the novel, seeing as how Myers wasn't allowed to do other things in the previous novels (i.e. a good luck Semblance) since the show was going to cover it. As much as I loved the story, that's a slight annoyance and worry I have, though not enough to detract from the overall quality as is.

    Pretty good, not great

I basically listen to it in one go. And it was pretty OK. It didn't feel like the writer quite had a grasp of the characters they were writing. Switching perspectives each chapter did help cover that up, but it's still there.

    Trivia Vanille's (Neo's) Tragic Backstory

Amazing book, good story, awesome character.
When I got into RWBY again in October of this year, Neopolitan quickly became my favorite character. This sassy, mute, and mysterious girl has an impact on me. When I watched the series in 2016, she wan't exactly my top favorite, but seeing RWBY now, she is. So when I found out that this mysterious girl has a backstory, I wanted to read this book!

In my opinion, the story seems a little to elementary. It is implied that Trivia (Neo) is abused, her father shakes her violently out of anger in Ch. 1, and her parents essentially keep her trapped like Rapunzel. I feel this was meant to target a younger audience (it is published by Schoolastic) but I feel that a more mature take on Trivia's abuse would have strengthened the character development. The series is popular with teens and adults, and I feel they could have taken this — the show is more mature than the book. Story also seems a bit cliché at times, but this is RWBY after all.

I would recommend this book, especially if you are a big Neopolitan fan. I have a paper copy, but Audible really helps me with reading.

    What an outstanding backstory

I already liked Roman and Neo, but this gave me so much of a deeper appreciation for them now, and now I feel really bad for Neo

    Great Book

Explains the dastardly duo's backstory, what more could you want? It's great love the dynamic between Roman and Neo, along with Roman's whole story from young thug to mastermind criminal and Neos story from a quiet little girl to unshackle mayham and trickery.
Biggest issue I had with it was the VA, I myself didn't really enjoy the male voices, being annoying at times.

Better then I'd thought it'd be

Didn't really care for the high school drama with Neo, but quite enjoyed everything else. Also wished they'd had gotten the VA's from the series to voice their characters in this, the narrator did a good job but nothing beats the original VAs. Overall I think they did a pretty good job with this considering I enjoyed this story more then the last few volumes combined.

    THE VOICE IMPRESSIONS!

Oh god I loved the voice impressions. She could go from seductive little miss to the snobby twins than someone sweet like neo!
