    Couverture de Magyk

    Description

When Alice TodHunter Moon was five years old, she saw a beautiful golden Dragon Boat fly over her PathFinder village. She knew at once that the boat was Magykal.

That was years ago, before her mother died, her father disappeared at sea, and the Garmin took her best friend, Ferdie.

Now it's up to Tod and Ferdie's brother, Oskar, to rescue Ferdie from the Garmins' keeper, the malevolent Lady. Their journey takes them to the Castle, where they receive help from ExtraOrdinary Wizard Septimus Heap and ex-ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand.

But the Lady's brother, the Darke sorcerer Oraton-Marr, has a plan that will put everyone Tod holds dear in danger. To save her people, Tod must embrace her identity as a PathFinder and navigate the Ancient Ways, mysterious Magykal paths leading to unfamiliar - and sometimes dangerous - lands.

Taking place seven years after the story arc of the original best-selling Septimus Heap series, PathFinder celebrates the joy of discovering one's own personal Magyk and of choosing the path that lets that Magyk flourish and grow.

Gerard Doyle would have been better

Would have preferred Gerard Doyle to read this as he did the last series. He didna better job in my opinion. but the story is great as expected.

    Epic and Beyond Delightful

It feels like returning to dear friends in getting to reconnect with the Heap tribe and other castle inhabitants. Exciting at every corner and delightful new characters. I can’t wait to re-read! I thought it might be disappointing to be in the same world as the Heaps but not hear much about them with it being a new series - but they are present and active and it’s so wonderful to get to engage with them in their grown up years. Love love love this book and the whole series!

Fun listen for Septimus fans, don't expect a wow.

Would you recommend PathFinder to your friends? Why or why not?

If you are a fan of Septimus, this is a fun book to listen to. I would not recommend starting with this series. There are too many characters (some new, most old) and it is difficult to attach affections to any one of them.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

New narrator for a new series, difficult for a fan of the 1st series and performances. Accents are good, but there is not as much excitement generated.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did not have trouble pausing, but found myself coming back to here about what Septimus was up to.

    Great Listen

Very happy to hear another great tale from Angie Sage, and even happier that this new series includes our old friends from the Septimus Heap series. The narrator doesn't really nail the imperious quality of Marcia from the original, but that's a small thing. On to the next book!

Narrator is a new favourite for me

Every character had a recognizable and distinct voice and accent. Lovely storytelling! I am looking forward to listening to more.

Great start to Sage's offshoot series, but!

If you could sum up PathFinder in three words, what would they be?

    Continues storyline well!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alice "Tod" Todhunter Moon--who can resist a young, female character finding her inner warrior?

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Nicola Barber is a fine narrator, and I enjoyed her development of the new characters. However, my question is why would there be a change of narrators? I would get it if this wasn't an offshoot series that involves several characters already well established and identifiable, but even with a female lead, Gerard Doyle should have continued as the narrator. He has given so many of the characters their audio personalities and the change of narration is jarring and detracts from Sage's great new storyline to widen and enrich the world of Septimus Heap she has created.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Angie Sage incorporates humor, tender moments, romance, danger and plenty of action which allows the reader a scope of emotions. This keeps you reading and/or listening!

    Any additional comments?

Bring back Gerard Doyle! This does not mean Barber isn't also a great narrator, I just want the real characters from the original series back.

    too much convenience

No overarching storyline really; problems solves as quickly as they're realized; deus ex machina

    Narrator vs. narrator.

After finishing the Septimus Heap series, I was excited to start the PathFinder series. The story itself was good, but after listening to Gerard Doyle, I was slightly disappointed with the narrator on this story. Though she was good and the story was from a young girls point of view, I still feel it would have been good listening to Gerard Doyle narrate.
