Description

It's almost Christmas, and Emery Hazard finds himself face to face with his own personal nightmare: going on a double date with his partner - and boyhood crush - John-Henry Somerset. Hazard brings his boyfriend; Somers brings his estranged wife. Things aren't going to end well.

When a strange call interrupts dinner, however, Hazard and his partner become witnesses to a shooting. The victims: Somers' father and the daughter of a high school friend. The crime is inexplicable. There is no apparent motive, no connection between the victims, and no explanation for how the shooter reached his targets.

Determined to get answers, Hazard and Somers move forward with their investigation in spite of mounting pressure to stop. Their search for the truth draws them into a dark web of conspiracy and into an even darker tangle of twisted love and illicit desire. And as the two men come face to face with the passions and madness behind the crime, they must confront their own feelings for each other - and the hard truths that neither man is ready to accept.

this was a tough one to sit through.

the writing tends to ramble about the same stuff that's not relevant to the story. The characters break character and fall into cliches to keep the characters from having any logical sense, how else could a simple mystery drag on for what seems like eternity?
the characters argue more about arguing than of anything of substance. They have non-stop internal debates about their feelings, which would be fine if it wasn't the same exact debate every 15 minutes. The funny part is they voice the repetitiveness of their arguments numerous times to each other yet continue to go round and round.

The only redeeming character is Niko. Hazard is the most unattractive sounding personality yet someone people are supposed to be drawn to him. I listen for Niko and Summers even though Summers falls out of character often in order to push certain narratives forward.

Can’t wait for the next one!!!

Please, please, please!!! I can’t take it one more book. Love in such torturous form makes my heart ache, makes my stomach hurt, and I can’t even sit still while listening. Gregory Ashe, please don’t let these men suffer forever! Best Series ever.

this book got me good

sorry everyone, this series is my new obsession for the next months. this book had everything I loved from book 1, featured in aspects of book 2 and still surpassed all the ones before. I am goddamned in love with the main characters and the portrayal of all their relationships and how each side character is fleshed out and alive.
