Sabine Baring-Gould
Whispers in the literary realm speak of a cryptic tale known as "Only a Ghost!" penned by none other than Irenæus the Deacon himself. But hark! This is no ordinary travelogue, for it is a work of humor and fiction that was brought to life by Sabine Baring-Gould. It is said that the spirit of Irenæus, once belonging to the church of 4th century Jerusalem, haunts the streets of the "most religious city of the world" in the year 1870. Within the pages of this eerie masterpiece, Baring-Gould reveals the spine-tingling account of Irenæus' bewilderment at the state of Christianity - one that is fraught with hypocrisy, superficiality, and superstition. And yet, as fate would have it, the unsuspecting citizens of London also find themselves awestruck by Irenæus' unwarranted thoughts.
