Description
"Tan France's unique accent, chummy intimacy, and cheeky delivery make audio the best way to experience his memoir." — AudioFile Magazine
This program is read by the author, with a special guest appearance!
In this heartfelt, funny, and touching memoir, one of the stars of Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning smash-hit Queer Eye reveals how an Englishman raised in a traditionally religious home became a fashion icon - and the first openly gay, South Asian man on television - simply by being Naturally Tan.
Before he became famous as one of the Fab Five makeover experts, Tan France was the youngest child in his family, growing up in South Yorkshire, England. As a member of one of the very few South Asian, Muslim families living in the predominantly white community, he was routinely bullied for both his culture and his skin color.
Knowing he was gay from an early age, Tan harbored that secret to avoid further racial harassment and potentially cause a rift between him and his family. It was a secret he would keep from them until finally coming out at the age of 34 - happily married to Rob, a Mormon cowboy from Salt Lake City.
With his trademark wit, humor, and radical compassion, Tan shares his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way about being a successful businessman, a devoted spouse, and self-acceptance. From navigating the gay community; to finding the love of his life; to creating a popular ladies’ clothing lines for Kingdom & State and Rachel Parcell, Inc.; to joining Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness on Queer Eye as positive, representative celebrity role models for LGBTQ people; Tan followed his own path to develop his signature style and embrace life on his own terms.
Full of his candid observations about US and UK cultural differences, social media behavior, celebrity encounters, behind-the-scenes realities of reality TV, and - of course - fashion tips, Tan gives his unique perspective on the happiness to be found in being yourself.

Thank you to Tan for addressing racism 👍🏼
I knew Tan France’s memoir would be entertaining but what really enticed me into listening was the fact that he talked openly about his experiences throughout his life with racism. Tan reflects on explicit, more hidden and also internalized racism that he has faced in the U.K., the U.S. and even in his own Southeast Asian community. He also talks about the difficulties of being a gay man in these different communities and cultures. I really appreciated that he used his voice to bring these important topics to the surface. Bravo, Tan! :) And yes, in addition, the book is also very entertaining!

Beyond what I could’ve expected
I laughed, I cried, I ugly cried, I honestly think it’s changed my life! I have to accept that I’ll never be friends with Tan in real life but I have a new found respect for him and I had a lot of respect for him before this book. Truly the best book I’ve read in a long time

I wanted to love this book...
I really wanted to love Tan's memoir. He has lived quite a life and had some amazing adventures. But, his admonishment of divorce and style preferences left me, as a divorced woman, feeling alienated. I love Tan on QE but I did not love his book. I didnt finish it.

Binged and would binge again!
Was watching this book like a hawk, waiting for it to be available to listen to. Yes I binged it all in a day and I’m sitting in the lobby ready to get the physical copy and see Tan on his tour! Absolutely phenomenal! Glad we get to see another side of you Tan!! And *SPOILER* Antoni was a nice little side bar! Couldn’t recommend this book enough!

Definitely rereading!
I truly loved this book and I was not even finished with it when I decided that I'm going to read it again. I felt like I was going on the emotional rollercoaster with him as he told stories of his last and present. I was crying within the first 20 minutes! I dont usually write reviews but this book deserved it. I reccomend this book 1000%

Not a fan
Tan was my fav of the Fab Five so I was excited to listen to this. the first parts of the book were really interesting and I did enjoy learning more about his life and journey into who he is today. But I had to stop listening about halfway through because he really started to come off as highly judgemental, and I just couldn't push on. perhaps it got better but I couldn't force it. disappointing.

Great for Tan Fans
This is not the best written book. It could have used more editing. It rambles and jumps around. But Tan reads it to us. Even if he is going on and on about something I don't care much about I still just enjoyed listening. He's a real person with imperfections. It's wonderful that Tam has such a happy life and is able to share his life experiences in his book and on the TV show Queer Eye.
So now I'm a Tan Fan more than ever. By the way, I am a 65 years old woman.

I love QE and Tan, but this is disappointing.
Unfortunately, the only redeeming and interesting parts of this book are glossed over quickly. The random and generic fashion advice reads like a cheap magazine and Tan comes off as judgemental and feeds into stereotypes for all sorts of people and groups. His personal struggles, meeting the QE boys, and his relationship were the most interesting parts, but they lack a cohesiveness in the storytelling and are very surface level. I was greatly disappointed.

A heartfelt, honest and hilarious memoir
Tan France narrates his wonderful memoir with snark, sass, and love. His story is both very personal and delivers an honest look at what life is like for people of color. I cried over some of his earliest memories of racism growing up. I also laughed along with him when he delivers his sassy commentary on clothes, style and being famous. I smiled and sighed and grew smitten over Rob with him as he shares their love story. The print copy is great, but the magic is the author-narrated audiobook. Highly recommended!

Wonderful experience
I really enjoyed listening to this book. Tan did a great job reading it in a way that felt like he was telling a story and not actually reading it. The content was interesting and he did a good job staying focused. I appreciated his down to earth approach and ownership of his feelings, showing that it is OK to be vulnerable and straight forward with who you are and what you want from life.

Entertaining and personal
Tan is such a good story teller - you want to listen for hours on end, and then the audio book suddenly ends. It takes you by surprise, really, and it makes you want to go back and start over
