Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Everything is in the title
- Écrit par : Gali-Jean D. le 14/12/2018
Description
"Elaine gifts us all with a beautifully intimate and powerful retelling of her ever-unfolding journey. In sharing her joys, pitfalls, adventures, self-doubt, and successes, she reminds us that through uncovering and discovering the many facets of ourselves, we are more than enough." (Yara Shahidi)
"Elaine’s book is a call for young women to find their voice and spark their courage - it's a book I would have loved to discover as a young woman starting my own career." (Reese Witherspoon)
In this part-manifesto, part-memoir, the revolutionary editor who infused social consciousness into the pages of Teen Vogue explores what it means to come into your own - on your own terms
Throughout her life, Elaine Welteroth has climbed the ranks of media and fashion, shattering ceilings along the way. In this riveting and timely memoir, the groundbreaking journalist unpacks lessons on race, identity, and success through her own journey, from navigating her way as the unstoppable child of a unlikely interracial marriage in small-town California to finding herself on the frontlines of a modern movement for the next generation of change makers.
Welteroth moves beyond the headlines and highlight reels to share the profound lessons and struggles of being a barrier-breaker across so many intersections. As a young boss and often the only black woman in the room, she's had enough of the world telling her - and all women - they're not enough. As she learns to rely on herself by looking both inward and upward, we're ultimately reminded that we're more than enough.
Includes a bonus interview
Commentaires
“[Elaine Welteroth’s] impressive career trajectory makes for fascinating reading, but what makes the book especially worthwhile is its depiction of an emergent social and political consciousness so strong that it eventually led her to abandon corporate media for the ‘joy of dancing into [an unknown] future.’ An inspiring memoir by a dynamic groundbreaker.” (Kirkus Reviews)
“This isn’t just a coming of age story, it’s a book about coming into your own and embracing who you are. As we follow Elaine’s journey, she sheds a bright light on what happens when a black girl not only decides to be the master of her own destiny but challenges what the world thinks a black girl’s destiny should be.” (Lena Waithe)
“More Than Enough is a guide for young people who want to find their voice, a crash course for those who want to challenge the status quo, and an adventure story for all of us. Young women can learn so much from Elaine's remarkable journey.” (Malala Yousafzai)

Lovely Book
I found myself mirroring her mother’s adages from growing up. I enjoyed the flow of the story, which made it comforting. Elaine created an ambience of you and her having a tea and catching up. Sisterly. The interview with her parents at the end was a definitely a thoughtful touch 👌🏽

Elaine in my heart.
I didn’t realize how much I would identify with Elaine’s story. Listening to her voice day after day she has crept her way into my heart. I admire her tenacity and effervescent spirit. To be close in age with Elaine and recognizing my own power and ability I began to believe at just 30 yes I am more than enough too. And my new favorite boss as chick word is intersection! 😇

Disappointing
Although her voice is lovely her story is not. My take away is she is politically one sided, narrow minded. I was hoping to be uplifted by reading her story. It was quite the opposite for me.

Wow
Wow. What a way to start my first audiobook experience. I heard her speak on NPR and I thought I would give this audiobook a try. I was blown away. I really had no idea what to expect and knew nothing about Elaine Welteroth before this book. I am now a fan and a fellow mixed girl. Her words were inspiring and relatable. She didn’t hold back on how she felt in certain situations and was able to look back and reflect on her mistakes. I feel like this is a must read for any women of color or any parent raising a child of color. Her voice was easy to listen to. It was like she was just talking and not reading word for word of the book. Everything flowed very nicely. Even had some guest voice appearances by her lovely parents.

Yaaas Black Queen: 10 out of 10 would recommend
Elaine Weltheroth brought some serious Black girl realness into her book and WE STAN! From her candor and realness about her past relationships to current love that gives a girl like me some real HOPE! To opening up about her mental health, work-life balance (or lack thereof) and her personal experience climbing the corporate beauty ladder, Elaine keeps it raw and DRIPPING in Black Girl Magic! Thank you for showing the world that Black girls are real, emotional, multi-dimensional and come in all shapes and sizes. I give this book 5 STARS! And recommend any young women but ESPECIALLY Black or brown young woman to read this book. 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Laughed, cried and related all the way through!
Elaine and her parents kept me company on a cross-country road trip and I completed the book in 2 days! I enjoyed hearing Elaine's story, especially in her own voice. As a woman in media myself, I could intimately relate and know some of her colleagues who have shared similar stories. I appreciate her candor, her charm and her courageous accountability in pointing out why she made certain decisions or didn't make others, although she sometimes wishes that she had. Overall, Elaine is so likable that I definitely feel like we are friends now that I know most of her life story. I look forward to cheering her on from the social media sidelines! It took some getting used to hearing her parents chime in - in their own voices - but I think that was a nice touch that I hadn't heard done before in previous audiobooks that I've listened to. Hearing their voices gave more depth to their characters/personalities as well. I highly recommend!
