Description
The updated edition of the best-selling book that has changed millions of lives with its insights into the growth mindset.
“Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.” (Bill Gates, GatesNotes)
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, PhD, discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset - those who believe that abilities are fixed - are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset - those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.
In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love - to transform their lives and your own.
Commentaires
“A good book is one whose advice you believe. A great book is one whose advice you follow. This is a book that can change your life, as its ideas have changed mine.” (Robert J. Sternberg, co-author of Teaching for Wisdom, Intelligence, Creativity, and Success)
“An essential read for parents, teachers [and] coaches...as well as for those who would like to increase their own feelings of success and fulfillment.” (Library Journal, starred review)
“Everyone should read this book.” (Chip Heath and Dan Heath, authors of Made to Stick)

Un livre essentiel pour le mindset
Même si le livre peut être résumé en une seule grande idée qui est répétée encore et encore à travers différentes histoires, cette trouvaille sur le mindset peut radicalement changé votre vie si implémentée.

😫THIS NARRATOR IS UNBEARABLE 😫
REVIEW BASED ON NARRATOR. Unfair, I know.
I really wanted to listen to this book.
Mel Robbins suggested it in her audiobook “Take Control Of Your Life”. That book is life changing, so I figure she’s onto something.
I got MINDSET.
However, this narrator has the WORST voice/tone/intonation EVER! She might do best voicing over sci-fi movies & horror characters.
I cannot possibly listen to her voice for 10 hours :/ so I’ve been listening to the book 5min at a time so I can take a break from her.
Not working.
Buying hardcover.
Audible; please fix this!!!!
Please have Michael Neill narrate this!!!!
Someone should be doing quality control here!

terrible narrator
couldnt listen to it. I'm not trying to be rude, just want to paint a clear picture here, it sounds like it's being read by a member of the lollipop guild on the Wizard of oz.

Enlightening but redundant
This book was extremely enlightening and has really helped solidify some issues for me, however the majority of the book was dedicated to explaining the concept of the two mindsets rather than talking about how to cultivate the growth mindset. The language used to describe the "fixed" mind set was often judgmental, and as someone who struggles with that, it was a little off putting. However, if you can put the negativity of the language aside, there is helpful information. I wish there was more information and explanation of how to change mindset once you've identified that you have the "bad" fixed mindset.

Painful!
Was so excited to listen to this. Was recommended so highly by Authors and speakers who’s opinions I value. Her voice sounds like a robot. Could not make it through!

Robot voice was WAY too distracting!
Wanted to love this, content is great but the robot voice has proven too much to handle. The performance completely ruins the content. As others have suggested, the paperback or kindle version is the way to go, save yourself and completely skip the audiobook audible version.

great use of time
Yes the reader was robotic for the first 25 percent of the book, but then she settled in and became human. There are so many ideas that I will apply immediately to my life personally and professionally. This was well worth the purchase, now I am familiar with the concept and can go back to the hard copy to flag some ideas.

Flawed Science and Overly Optimistic
I have been fascinated by neuroplasticity and the ability of the brain to reorganize and change itself, but Carol Dweck's book is an overly optimistic title which makes promises that are only backed up by wishful thinking, not science. She claims you can actually change your intelligence (or g factor for those psychologists out there) among other things like personality traits (she implies if not outright claims you can change the Big Five).
While her initial 1998 paper was groundbreaking and her subsequent work followed up on it, none of it has been replicated, and recent high-powered attempts to replicate in 2017 supported the null hypothesis. Carol Dweck makes big promises, but to overturn a century of intelligence science and some of the most well-tested and prediction-capable psychological theories out there (i.e. the Big Five) you need a great deal of evidence, and that just isn't there.

I really had higher expectations for this book.
The story teller is a little boring and I often fell a sleep. There are more stories then actual tips and tricks on how to get a growth mindset.
There is to much talk about sports.

Life Changing Book
A totally new perspective of how mind works. This book made me learn a lot and rethink the way my beliefs and communication hasn't been effective. Very thought provoking and insightful to me! It hasn't change my lives just by listening it but it gathers great tools for me to do the work and change it by myself. I will keep this one in my return list so that I can relisten it over and over. Totally recommend!

Not a bad message – but does't need to be a book
The message behind the book is honestly not bad, but OH MY GOD it just keeps repeating the same messages throught the entire book. I felt like I paid money just so I could hear people nagging to me. The credentials of the author is impressive, but ultimately this is a poorly written book and I recommend people to stay away from it – or you can simply read the last chapter of it. It is THAT bad...

great concept but repetitive
all the book is around one (or two to be more precise) concept and then repeats the same ideas applied to different situations.

Important lessons but too long
The book is a recommendation but some stories are unnecessary and she takes too many detours. She could've put the content into half the length but still it was worth it for the lessons

Why you should believe in learning.
It takes a whole Book and decades of scientific work to make one point: Seeing yourself as a learner in the world is key to all kinds of progress and success. Fundamental work. 6/5
