    Very affecting book, lovable characters provoking many tears and some laffs! I enjoyed the Trini dialect, recipes and the diversity of love with all its human flaws... I also appreciated the realism: colonial-legacy trauma and inequality making trouble in paradise...

    I felt fully immersed in the experience of life in Trinidad and, more generally, in the West Indies: the sights, sounds, smells, landscapes... and the people! I so appreciate how all the various themes meet and weave together organically and authentically.
    I have to make special mention of how Ingrid Persaud manages to present an example of the homosexual experience in the Caribbean in such a beautifully human way.
