“The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world. Lies will pass into history.”
Looking Back on the Spanish War is a powerful, first-hand account of the horrors of war and the disillusionment Orwell felt with the intellectual class's handling of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Combining vivid recollections of trench life and political commentary, he exposes how propaganda reshapes memory and how truth itself becomes a casualty of conflict, combining many of the recurrent themes in Orwell's fiction and non-fiction.
Born Eric Arthur Blair, George Orwell (1903-1950) was a British novelist, essayist, and critic famous for his insightful social and political commentary. His personal engagement with real world issues imbues his work with a sense of social conscience that continues to resonate with listeners, and his two most famous novels, Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four, continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
