Description
John Ajvide Lindqvist’s international bestseller Let the Right One In is “a brilliant take on the vampire myth, and a roaring good story” (New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong), the basis for the multi-film festival award-winning Swedish film, the U.S. adaptation Let Me In directed by Matt Reeves (The Batman), and the Showtime TV series.
It is autumn 1981 when inconceivable horror comes to Blackeberg, a suburb in Sweden. The body of a teenager is found, emptied of blood, the murder rumored to be part of a ritual killing. Twelve-year-old Oskar is personally hoping that revenge has come at long last—revenge for the bullying he endures at school, day after day.
But the murder is not the most important thing on his mind. A new girl has moved in next door—a girl who has never seen a Rubik’s Cube before, but who can solve it at once. There is something wrong with her, though, something odd. And she only comes out at night. . .

Disturbing, a modern Gothic Tale
The films "Let Me In" (2010) and "Let the Right One In" (2008) were good, well-made stories for the screen; the book is an entirely different experience, with more detail and many horrors not explained in the movie make themselves indispensable to the story's overall theme. All three tales retell the tale differently, making it almost a new account. The book is extremely dark, and the vampirism spreads like a plague. Old-world fears make themselves anew; an unsuspecting public cannot deal with the horrifying reality- thus, misdirection and death ensue as deep and well-developed characters deal with the darkness.

Oh boy that was terrible
This was awful. I read it cause I enjoy both films and was interested in the source material. I don’t understand how this became so big. I mean there’s films, plays, a show, even a comic from this terrible book. The writing is terrible. It follows this pattern where the author will introduce a new character and get their perspective, you’ll hear characters thoughts and hear them whine a little bit about life then some “strange” or “unusual” will happen and they’ll talk about how it’s “strange” and “unusual” it is, only for them to either run away or die. THE AUTHOR DOES THIS WITH A SQUIRREL!!??!? Most of the story pointless rambles that don’t add anything, let alone make interesting characters. Let’s not forget that one of the three main characters is a pedophile. He’s just a pedophile. There’s no good reason why he is, There’s no interesting reason for it. There only reason why it’s there is because the author was probably thing he was so dark and edgy to make a character a pedo. Stupid. It’s bad. If you’re interested in the story, just watch the films. The Swedish film is more accurate adaption, the American film is much darker due to impactions.

Best modern vampire story I’ve ever heard
In an era of “interpretations” of vampires, it’s really refreshing to see a return to form to the vampire stories we all heard growing up that left a mark on all of us. Highly recommended this book to anyone who loves a good fright.

This is how you write a vampire novel!
Character driven with strong and original voice; I only wish the author had given more time to the resolution.

Amazing book
The story has dark and disturbing content but is a must-read. The story has strong themes of loneliness, depression, revenge, bullying, love, and murder, all wrapped up in suspense

It was okay
Not my favorite. Hard to stay invested. Only enjoyed the interactions between Oscar and Eli. The rest was just filler to me that I couldn’t get into. I heard good things about this and I really gave it a try. Not for me though. It was meh.
