Description
Being a hero always has its price, but what happens if that price is too high to pay?
Fresh off their victory over Graves and his followers, Marcus and his friends have managed to enjoy a few weeks of relative calm and peace as they continue to build Aldford, preparing the town for a new wave of settlers coming from Eberia. But as the days wear on with no new arrivals in sight, they begin to fear the worst. Eventually setting out to search for their promised reinforcements, they soon realize that they weren't as alone on the frontier as they thought they were.
Just managing to rescue a caravan of settlers in the nick of time from a horde of bandits, Marcus and the rest of Virtus barely have a chance to catch their breath before they find themselves thrust into the middle of Eberian politics, revealing a plot that threatens to not only take away their hard-won independence, but to destroy Aldford completely.

MC often forgets his own powers.
I was thoroughly enjoying this book. It had humor, action, suspense, political intrigue, and a great game world. I couldn’t put it down until, the author has he MC forget his own powers. It is one of my biggest pet peeves in fantasy. It happens when an author makes his character too powerful and needs to create suspense.
For example the MC has a big battle with an old enemy, and not once did he use his blink step. He went from a badass who blinked across the battle field in previous battles to and idiot who slowly runs up the the bad guy who is fighting his friend. He use to be able to blink in an instant but now instead he gets killed and he deserved it (i understand the pressure of battle may make people react irrationally but his whole schtick is that he and his guild have trained and prepared themselves more than others). I actually no longer wanted him to succeed in the book. He is suppose to be a spell sword, but he almost never uses his spells. Sure he might cast a spell shield, but come on!! Aargh I wanted to actually yell at the author.
It’s lazy and you lost me as a fan.

Deeply Satisfying
All the books in this series have gone above and beyond even my best expectations. Every time you get to a place the author COULD have ended it and drawn out the series as smaller, more episodic pieces...there is more! And the story, characters, world, and narrator are all so compelling that "more" is EXACTLY what you're hoping for.
If all books were this good, I'd spend more money on them every month that than I do on my rent. This series is my new "gold standard", which is unfortunate, since very very few other series will be able to live up to such a standard for me.

Not enough Azure
To be honest, everyone who says the MC is an idiot or an asshole in the book is wrong. During a duel he won, some ppl said he was too harsh on the guy, but honestly he wasn’t harsh enough. There is a lot, and I mean a lot of combat throughout this book. I loved every second of it. This is a great entry in the series and can’t wait for the next.

It's Alright
Let me start out by saying that this book was enjoyable. I liked the story in general, and the world is a fun and interesting place.
That being said, this book could have used some editing. There were way too many characters and none have very distinct personalities. Many times the author would mention a character's name and I was hard pressed to remember who they were and what their relation to the protagonist was. I feel like many of them could be combined into just one character and serve the same purpose.
Another problem I had with the book was the main character. He's well... kind of an asshole. During several confrontations in the story, as a player of MMORPGs, I found myself siding with the people he was confronting. There were several issues of fairness or favoritism that other charcters bring up. I totally agreed with these other people that, as a leader, Lirian should have understood he was wrong and strove to be better or at least realized that he needed to work on these things. In the book though what happens is, these people are framed as selfish at best or paracites at worst.
There is a bit of a Mary Sue thing going on with the protagonist but LitRPG kind of thrives on this power fantasy so, I can forgive that. What annoys me is at no point does Lirian have any character flaws that he or his friends recognize. Everything he does is right and perfect. The only thing he ever does wrong is work too hard.
TL;DR: Decent book, protagonist is kind of annoying.

Great listening
Ok so book two was different and difficult for me to get through but I was pleasantly surprised at how it tied in to this one. I’m definitely going to get book four as soon as it’s released on audible.

Enjoyed the first book
This book was much harder for me to get through. I’m not sure why. I feel like every page was a fight scene. It was just one fight after another. I feel like the story got lost within them. I will probably continue to read the series, because I like to see things through until the end. But this book really dragged for me.
The narrator was excellent.

Characters could be better
I liked the game world and overall story. I found the main character unlikable. the game system doesn't seem thought out and the fact that blink step is a level 10 ability bugs the hell out of me. spellblades are majorly op... but there are only 2 in the book so far..

The story is really good.
i really enjoy the whole series. The Speaker is spot on. Every charakter has his own voice and even if it hasn't been in the story for some time you can remeber it by the voice.
Really good book and job over all. please much more of this.

Einfach Episch
