Description
Whitley Strieber is a literary legend, and Jesus: A New Vision is the most provocative book of his career. As the author of such influential books as Warday, Nature’s End, Communion, and Superstorm, he ranks among the cultural forces of our time.
Jesus: A New Vision is at once a magisterial work of scholarship and a completely new approach to the meaning and message of Jesus. It comes at a time when the Western world is divided between a declining number of believers in Christian doctrine and an ever-increasing number of people who feel that Jesus was nothing more than a religious zealot who was executed for the crime of sedition.
What if neither of these approaches is right? What if Jesus really did perform miracles, including the resurrection, but that this says not that he was a deity, but that he was exercising human powers which are buried within us all and which we do not suspect are there?
By exploring the life of Jesus and his teachings in an entirely new way, Jesus: A New Vision sheds fresh light on the meaning and power of his parables, explores the mysteries of the gospels of Thomas and Mary with fresh insight, and explains why, as Strieber puts it, he “committed suicide by crucifixion”.
It also addresses the questions that continue to surround the Shroud of Turin, exploring both the science that concluded that it was a medieval forgery and the more recent studies that have shown it to be something very different.
It explores what happened after Jesus’s death that led to the ultra-violence that destroyed the entire polytheistic culture of the Roman Empire and explains why this greatest of all human revolutions happened, relating it to the pandemics and uncontrollable migrations that resulted from a climate change event that began around AD 150 and led to extraordinary disruptions that the Romans, knowing nothing of solar variability, blamed on their gods.
In its sweep and its drama, there has never been another book like Jesus: A New Vision.

An Epiphany For Any Believer Or Non-Believer
This book changed my entire worldview. An in-depth look into the life & times of a mortal man who it would appear didn't know he was the Christ until long after his youth & young adulthood. Strieber is an incredible writer who takes you into the story of a spiritual belief system that began as simple teachings from a humble yet incredibly focused & courageous man who set out to deliver a message of hope and strength to people who lived in complicated and dangerous times much like the ones we are in now.
As a man who always looked at life as a predicament rather than a gift of learning & adventure, I have been transformed by this book in the 70th year of my life. Raised in a Methodist home with a strict view of the scriptures I was bored and actually turned off by organized religion. This book showed me why.
Whitley Strieber is a very gifted and engaging writer who is undoubtedly a very spiritual being. If you have any curiosity as to the true origins and development of Christianity this book will stun your imagination.

Excellent
A very thought provoking, insightful, educational and inspirational book. I was going to skip this one until I heard Mr. Strieber, on his podcast Dreamland, explain the difference between Jesus the teacher and what history and religion turned him into. I think there is a lot to this book that would interest people of any or no faith.

Very disappointed
I thought you might attempt to bridge the gap between Christians and the theory/fact of aliens. Instead, you retell biblical stories in a way that guts the very Gospel of its message. Yes, it is a message of joy and adoption, but joy is certainly not the goal. It is the acceptance of God's forgiveness of our sins, and our free will to follow Him out of love and thankfulness that is the real good news. You ignore passages that are obvious and make up others. Your so-called Gospel brings Christianity down the level of others. What other God/Man/Spirit has ever sacrificed his own sinless life so that God might forgive him and adopt us all as children? After all the ways you denigrate Jesus and his story, your ultimate conclusion rings hollow.

Phenomenal Insight
This book brought great insight into history and motives of religion and the light of humanity through the human Jesus.
Perhaps a much needed broadening of perspective into stories echoed through time yet still mysterious or misunderstood.
I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend to anyone asking deeper questions with an open heart.

Compelling and transformative
Whitley Strieber delivers a wonderful performance and compelling argument for a New (original) vision of Jesus, which taken as a third in sequence, does make for a good read and listen.
I highly recommend this audiobook, coupled with the digital copy book (mine was from Kindle) for deeper penetration of understanding and retention. Whitley's tone and energy lull the reader into a sense of a lovely quiet conversation with an old friend.

JESUS
To be honest, I was hoping this book would be deeper than it was. Maybe I already knew much of the information, so I didn't find it very informative. I really liked how the author included the books of Thomas and Mary. They are apocryphal books and so, are not usually included as a biblical source but they are probably a better source than the gospels. I would've liked it if Whitley Strieber would've gone into more depth of those books. I'm on the fence, of whether it was worth it, to use a credit for this book. The author did a lot of research and work, which I appreciate. If you don't know the history of Jesus and Constantine, this will be a great book for you.

Not what I was expecting
Although not great this book is certainly a good contribution to the community of people interested in elevating their consciousness or awakening their higher self or their community to their higher selves. Everything the author discusses in his new vision is common knowledge to any well-read person. I was hoping for a connection between the author's other work and the subject of this work. A grand concept indeed. Unfortunately it fell flat for me and did not provide what I was hoping for in that regard, but it still held onto the pulse of truly meaningful contemplations. I see how some people could give this book five stars but I was let down and can only give it three.
