But their courtship in once again interrupted, this time by one of Nuala's "spells". Nuala is fey, as they say in the Old Country, and she occasionally has visions from the past. This time, while driving down Lake Shore Drive, she is overwhelmed by the screams of thousands of dying men, though the surrounding suburbs seem perfectly calm.
Nuala feels the pain of the tormented souls who want the truth to finally come out, but the investigation turns into much more than an academic exercise when Nuala is pursued by alleged members of the IRA, and then is arrested as an art thief.
