Description

Everyone loves Jack Holland, but Emmaline Neal needs him. Her ex-fiancé is getting married in Malibu and, obviously, she can't go to the wedding alone. In Manningsport, New York, tall, blond, and gorgeous Jack Holland is practically a cottage industry when it comes to rescuing desperate women. He knows the drill, Em figures, so he won't get the wrong idea.

What Jack needs is an excuse to leave town. Ever since rescuing four teenagers from a car wreck, he's been hailed as a hero and the attention is making him itchy, especially since his too-pretty ex-wife is back, angling for a reunion. He's always liked Emmaline. She needs a weekend date? No problem. So when they wind up in bed together, Em chalks it up to red wine and chocolate cake, just one impulsive night not to be repeated. But Jack's pushing for more, and if she lets down her guard, either she'll get her heart crushed again, or discover that Jack's worth more than just dreaming about.

Only okay

Any additional comments?

The idea of a rejected woman's attending the wedding of her ex-fiance is absurd. He was so very mean to her. There is absolutely no reason for her to go to his wedding to a woman who was also very mean to her. That is the beginning of this book. One of the other story lines, which is the male lead's tolerance of his ex-wife's attentions, is also absurd. These two absurdities ruined this book for me.

LOVE this series....best one yet!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love the Holland family, Blue Heron Winery and Manningsport....this particular book, although it includes some very sad scenes, in large part is laugh out loud funny. I'm hoping there will be another book or two or three.....Connor still needs someone, and so does Jessica.......just a thought.

What does Amy Rubinate bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Amy Rubinate is AMAZING as narrator of this series. Although the books are a wonderful read, she adds life to the character and gives each character a uniqueness that would be missed otherwise.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

For the love of Blue Heron.

Obnoxious narration.

What didn’t you like about Amy Rubinate’s performance?

I liked the story well enough, but the narrator has this weird way of dragging out the first syllable of the last word of each sentence (or something like that.) "Amaazing." "OMGeeee" It makes her sound like she's sneering through all the lines. It's obnoxious because it gives all the characters this stuck-up snobbish tone, like they're characters in some '80's teenage drama. It's terribly obnoxious and takes away from the story.

Self-indulgent Characters, Couldn't Wait for it to End

I really like the other books in this series, but I couldn't get into this one. I found the characters and story to be rather self-indulgent and irritating. Some bigger issues were explored in the plot - PTSD, darker side of weight loss, indulgent and crazy ex-wife, stuttering, irresponsible teenagers, and non-traditional families. But it just didn't hang together well and was overkill. Instead of being drawn into a potentially rich story line, everyone just came across as annoying. I couldn't wait for it to end.

Great Series 1

Great Series!! I've enjoyed the whole family, small town, everyone knows everybody. Never realized that a hero would go through so much but it happens. I look for books narrated by Amy Rubinate. She can changes those voices so well.

I look forward to Connor's story. Not sure if he is next but I am going to keep looking for KH's next book.

Laugh out loud funny and just a few tears

I laughed aloud during parts of this book it was such great fun. Yet the author was able to bring a few tears as some of the more difficult things Jack and Emmaline were each dealing with were brought to a satisfactory close. Any one who has ever struggled with a stutter or worked hard to lose a lot of weight will find some parts of the book especially fun.

Listened to this one straight through on a snowy day and plan to listen to it again soon! Definitely credit worthy.

In Your Dreams

Emmaline is a police officer in the small town in New York and her ex-fiance is getting married and she has been invited to the wedding. She really needs a date and Jack Holland has agreed to go. He really wants out of town. He is suffering PTSD after saving kids from a car accident when their car went into the frozen pond and they would have drown if it wasn't for him but the driver is still in a coma. Jack is suffering even though the town treats him like a hero. He has always had a crush on Emmaline even though she doesn't realize it and now she needs him and he is there to rescue her. This one was so good. These two have such chemistry even when they are apart. Great addition to this series!

4.5 Stars

I'm devouring this series and can't get enough. It's easy when I'm listening to the ear-pleasing audios. Thankfully, there are plenty Higgins books left to read, because I only have one book in this series to go and I wouldn't have known what to do with myself. I'm officially a fan.
