Histoire
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Histoire
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

A master storyteller at his best - the O. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. The master at his scarifying best! From heart-pounding terror to the eeriest of whimsy - tales from the outer limits of one of the greatest imaginations of our time! Trucks that punish and beautiful teen demons who seduce a young man to massacre; curses whose malevolence grows through the years; obscene presences and angels of grace - here, indeed, is a night-blooming bouquet of chills and thrills.
Description
From number-one New York Times best-selling author, legendary storyteller, and master of short fiction Stephen King comes an extraordinary collection of four new and compelling novellas - Mr. Harrigan's Phone, The Life of Chuck, Rat, and the title story If It Bleeds - each pulling you into intriguing and frightening places.
The novella is a form King has returned to over and over again in the course of his amazing career, and many have been made into iconic films, including The Body (Stand by Me) and Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (Shawshank Redemption). Like Four Past Midnight, Different Seasons, and most recently Full Dark, No Stars, If It Bleeds is a uniquely satisfying collection of longer short fiction by an incomparably gifted writer.

Chapter breakdown of the short stories
Mr. Harriman’s Phone - Chapters 1-5
The Life of Chuck - Chapters 6-9
If It Bleeds - Chapters 10-20
Rat - Chapters 21-62
I enjoyed the book and the audio adaptation. My only complaint is with the audible breakdown of not showing which story was which, that’s why I wanted to share the confirmed chapter breakdown to the book stories. Hope this helps and hope you enjoy the stories as much as I did! Stay safe and healthy...and slightly scared of what lies o the next page!

Another Amazing Collection from the King of Horror
Stephen King is one of the best authors in the world. He has written more than 100 books, short stories, and novellas in almost all genres out there. I experienced many of them as audiobooks and just yesterday the Pre-order came in on my Audible app for If It Bleeds, his latest release.
If It Bleeds is another amazing work of fiction from the master, from the King of Horror and Suspense, bringing together four brilliantly written novellas. He could have released each of them individually and would have gone away with that, because each of them is long enough and strong enough to stand on their own.
The audiobook version of If It Bleeds is narrated by three great actors and they are doing an excellent job of bringing all of these remarkable characters to life. Will Patton and Steven Weber are well known and loved by fans of Stephen King for their amazing performances of It, The Outsider, The Myst or the Mr. Mercedes series. The other actor is Danny Burstein, a relatively newcomer in the audiobook industry, but after his delivery in this collection he might get famous fast.
I'll end this review by saying this: I spent the last 24 hours listening to If It Bleeds for more than 15 of them, I slept 8 and in what was left of the other hour, I thought about the book... With stories like this, our forced isolation in these demanding times would pass much easier.
Thank you Mr. King for all the amazing journeys you take us on everytime we read or listen to one of your works!
If you liked this review please vote Helpful below and find more of them here and on theAudiobookBlog.
I also post honest reviews at the author, narrator or publisher's request, you can get in touch with me for more details.
Thank you & stay safe,
Victor

It Should State At The Outset...NOT HORROR.
As far as I can tell from a three hour listen before I quit, (mostly because I couldn't take the narrator), the stories are sentimental fluff and have zip to do with Horror. So, this review pertains to those first three hours...and that's it. The narrator is supposedly a kid, yet he talks exactly like the old man he is developing a relationship with. Both talk with a "Brooklyn accent, "yoots" for "youths," "dis and dat" for "this and that," etcetera, and in a hushed, Joe Pesci wiseguy kind of way with barely parted lips, and sloppy enunciation, which is a perfect voice for a character in the Godfather, but a terrible voice for reading a book. I threw in the towel.

Phoned another one in...
The “If it Bleeds“ story itself is okay - although too sanitized and commercial; perhaps it could have been a standalone - it’s surely not old school Stephen King and a lame attempt at selling another tv miniseries.
“Rat” maybe had some potential at one point, but ended up a hashed up rerun combination of several other stories.
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone too familiar- nothing special there at all - more reruns and rehashes.
The Life of Chuck” disjointed disappointing garbage.
This “Constant Reader” of Stephen King for 40+ years, from “Carrie” - first read in 1979- to now, says this one is neither a “find,” nor is it a “keeper.”

There will be blood...
IF IT BLEEDS is a great new collection of novellas by the master, Stephen King. I'm not a huge fan of King's shorter stories, but his novella's always feel like complete stories to me. The stories in IIB are memorable, and very timely. King hasn't lost his touch or his ability to get under your skin. Narration by Will Patton, Steven Weber, and Danny Burstein is flawless. Worth a listen, and worth a credit. A must for King fans.

Excellent but not 1975-2013 King horror
First of all, I am offended that a listener/reviewer accused Stephen King of malfeasance and using a ghost writer in full. I've read every book by King and all of his early stories. It's him. I checked her reviews and she said it on his last book too. He may have help; the big guys often do these days. He's practically a billionaire and may be more of a big-thinker in his later years, using a lot of editorial help, or he may not, but the ideas are his and the tone is too. This reviewer and I are both republicans and I believe Steve's pinko liberalism is coming out more as he gets older; besides country music, Stephen Hunter and the NFL there are few good conservative entertainment providers willing to state their position and too many liberals. I would fault Steve for grabbing the low hanging fruit but its no biggie.
KIng's written the Dark Tower, 11-22-63, Shawshank and the Body (the 'Stand By Me' film). Much of his best work is not classic horror, some not horror at all. As an aspiring writer myself, he's written one of the most inspirational and effective motivational books On Writing (for my money the most). This is not a 1-dimensional mind-this is a world-class storyteller worthy of a statue with little company in the vestibule of the all-time storyteller hall of fame. It's hard to take her seriously as she read and actually reviewed Omerosa' s book, Also mum, it's Stephen not Steven.
That being said, this is a great story and read by brilliant narrators. It builds, it connects the dots and it's exciting. Classic storytelling. If you want prose to improve your vocab don't read this; don't read King. This book is a pleasure to read/hear. I hate writing reviews and I despise hearing about the story in them so that's it.
I will say this Mr. King; you keep talking about Hillary like she was good for your cause or America. She bullied the heir apparent and best candidate into not running and your lamentations are because of her. What she did was Not American. There is a democratic process for a reason. For shame Hillary-regardless of the other BS people say about her: That move was despicable and you need to find a better role model my friend!
Love you Steve! Keep writing and voting but maybe a little less political positioning. Love to hear another Dark Tower read by you. Maybe the incarnation of the Red King? Or another episode of the Talisman/Black House?

My love/hate relationship with King is frustrating
I don't know what it is with me and Stephen King. I can't seem to NOT purchase everything he comes out with even though I'm almost always disappointed. His writing is so captivating that I find myself invested within minutes of the opening paragraph. I mean, he really is a master of prose and dialogue. Everything flows so naturally that it's hard not to place yourself at the center of anything he writes. I'm instantly transported into whatever world he creates. But for some reason, more often than not, I'm left with this overwhelming sense of "what the f!%k" just happened? Am I missing something.... like, entire pages of exposition? The endings NEVER equal the overall brilliance of the first 95% of the story. Or worse, there is no ending at all. And as most of us know, some of his novels can be biblical in length, so when you've invested that much time in in a story that kind of just fizzles out, it can be a bit of a letdown. But still... the journey is usually mostly worth it. Never scary, but always interesting. So I guess I'll always be hoping the next work of fiction will show me some light at the end of its tunnel.
If nothing else, the narration on these novellas were each outstanding. Will Patton is a vocal God. Just sayin'.

It was a struggle to finish. This will be the last Stephen King audible or paper book I will purchase. Too bad he has to bring politics into his writings (big turn off) I buy books to get escape for a few hours. Don't waste your money.
