Description
For Kate Klein, suburbia's been full of unpleasant surprises. Her once-loving husband is hardly ever home. The supermommies on the playground routinely snub her. Her days are spent carpooling, and at night, most of her orgasms are of the do-it-yourself variety. So when a fellow mother is murdered, Kate finds that the unsolved mystery is one of the most interesting things to happen in Upchurch. She launches an unofficial investigation with the help of two friends and discovers the secrets and lies behind the town's placid picket-fence facade - and the choices and compromises all modern women make as they navigate between independence and obligation, small towns and big cities, being a mother and having a life of one's own.

Great Book! Very funny!
Any additional comments?
I found this book very entertaining. It kept my interest, I wanted to keep listening. I thought I had the bad guy figured out two or three times and I was wrong. It was very funny, I laughed out loud a few times and chuckled a lot. I loved all the characters. I want to be bff's with Janie!

Terrific Book!
This is a marvelous book -- a spot on satire of motherhood in suburbia -- laugh out loud funny -- and a great story about friendship, husband/wife and mother/daughter relationships. There's even a mystery. All in all, you can't go wrong with this book. Thank you Amazon for having the unabridged version.

Great Chick Lit. Light, funny, well read. Perfect summer diversion. I have enjoyed all her books this one included.

Enjoyed this more as an audio re-read than I did when I first read it!
I first read this book when it was released in 2005 and was, well, lukewarm about it. I decided to try to the audio version now as I've enjoyed re-reading some of Jennifer Weiner's other books in this way.
Folks, the narration totally makes this book. Parker brings Weiner's story together beautifully and I enjoyed it far more than I expected.

Awesome characters and story! Doesn't disappoint!
I wasn't expecting Weiner's "mystery" story to be as good as the others, but this one is my favorite so far. The characters are extremely likeable and I sense some strong undertones of Samantha Jones from SATC in Janie, whom I loved. Ending was superb and "appropriately" plotted.

Just OK
I'm finding it hard to get through this book. It starts out funny, but in her effort to jump into the "whodunnit" genre, Weiner loses much of her charm. Part of me is mildly curious about how the story ends, but the other part thinks, "who cares?" and "don't I have more important and more interesting things to do, like watching paint dry?"

I think I read this book before
This was a typical Weiner book, and if you like her books, you will like this, but not as well as Good in Bed or In her shoes. Kate is her stock character and Janey is there to keep the excitement. I think I have read this book before in her others. . . it's kind of like Nicholas Sparks books. . . how many times can you hear the same story (or in this case have the same characters)?

Entertaining’ish
Somewhere towards the middle of the book, I just got a little fed up with the protagonist’s whining. Like, c’mon sis...you chose to get married and have kids because your CRUSH...not BF, not lover...your CRUSH, didn’t choose you? That said, there were entertaining moments, mostly provided by Janie. This was the first JW book I’ve “read” (listened to on my two-hour-per-day commute) in which I just committed to getting to the end, simply because I’d paid for it.

Meh.
I have come to realize that creating a good ending is what separates the really good from the “meh”.

Just a Meh for me
The story was ok for me. The female lead seemed like she was supposed to be strong but then she’s obsessed over a former guy she knew that she had a crush on? Really? The story twists and turns without at times much meaningful structure or maybe it’s that there are just too many characters and we only see them develop a little. It was just ok for me.
