Description

The nation as we know it is a thing of the past. With the male species on the verge of extinction, a society called the End Men is formed to save the world. Folsom Donahue is one of 12 men whose sole purpose is to repopulate the Regions. The endless days spent having sex with strangers leaves Folsom with an emptiness no amount of women, money, or status can fill.

Until Gwen.

Gwen has wanted a child for as long as she can remember, but when she finally gets a chance to have her own, she uncovers a long-hidden truth. The injustice she sees moves her to help save the men whom no one else believes need saving.

A forbidden love, grown in a time of despair, ignites a revolution. Folsom and Gwen, torn between their love for each other and their sense of duty, must make a choice. But some will stop at nothing to destroy them.

Holy $hit! What did I just do??

I made the HUGE mistake of starting a series before it’s been completely written. I should have done more research; I stupidly thought the series concluded with book two. Um, wrong. And as those last few gut-wrenching minutes of Folsom were playing, I was chewing my nails with one hand while frantically downloading Jackal with the other hand and simultaneously freaking out because it had become clear that there is no way this series get wrapped up with just one more book. [Does that run-on sentence give you a hint about my current manic state?]

Enter self-pity as I realize that I am about to binge listen to Jackal and then I will have to WAIT, just like every other chump who started a series before the final book was written, begging for scraps as we anxiously await the next book in the series. It is going to suck! I am already so invested in these characters that I will not be able to wait graciously for the next installment.

Worth a credit? Hell yes! This story hooked me within the first five minutes and I stayed up all night listening (the level of caffeine currently coursing through my system may have something to do with the run-on sentences and general tone of crazy in this review). The story was well-paced, the characters well-developed, and the narration was on-point. Hours later, I am still one giant ball of tension from those last few minutes of the book. Without any spoilers, I will just say that I wanted to climb through my phone to strangle some folks. Prepare yourself.

Do not even question it; you should definitely listen this book. But, if you are like me (terrible at that whole “patiently” waiting thing), you might want to consider waiting until the complete series has been released before you start listening. Otherwise, you too, might end up wheels-off while writing your review. You have been warned.

Riveting

The two authors of this book are great on their own, but together they're explosive. I finished in one day and I'm running to read the next one.

A life of unknown love and rebel

Um OMG! I devoured this book in one day. I was hooked. Tarryn is my number one and this is a first from Willow Asher. I'm blown away. The End of Men will eat your heart and soul. You need this book and all the books.

Great Story Line

I LOVE the plot and I like a good steamy sex scene as much as the next person but it was a bit much. I thought it could have done without one or two of them. The story is worth it though and I'm excited to listen to the second book.

Great Read

Folsom was a great read by Tarryn Fisher and Willow Aster. This is book one in the End of Men series. The country looks much different in the future. The male species is on the verge of extinction as women have risen to power. End Men is a society that is formed to try and save the country. The End Men are twelve men who are tasked with repopulating the Regions. Folsom is one of those men, unfortunately he feels empty with the task of repopulation. When he meets Gwen everything changes for him. Gwen has always wanted a child, but it is when that is a reality, she uncovers hidden truths about the End Men. She begins a revolution that stems from her love for Folsom. I enjoyed reading Gwen and Folsom's story. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Powerful

In all honesty, I typically avoid reading any novel that has a dystopian element to it only because I have trouble connecting with that type of storyline. So, I put off starting this series for that particular reason. But I shouldn't have - this story isn't difficult to connect with. It's enticing, seductive, and powerful.

If you're willing to give this novel a chance, it will turn the world on end. It tackles sexism, levels of power, propaganda, and the importance of resistance. It's so much more than a story about men who are forced to re-populate the male species.

On a side note: That many women in the world = way too much estrogen!

You saw me...and my boots

Audiobook Folsom book 1 in the End Of Men series.
Story:
An outbreak killed off most of the male population leaving only a few to help repopulate the new world. Once a man’s world now a woman’s world. Twelve virile men populate the regions. Folsom was the first man to become an End Man and he wants out.

Overall:
It’s a very sexual driven story. Picture the Hunger Games of lottery winners being chosen to have sex with an End Man in hopes of a conceiving. With the male population wiped out, the regions are controlled by governor who decides where the End Men live.
It definitely gives you food for thought to consider this type of reality. Both authors factored in every possible scenario. They played devils advocate to both sides giving the pros and cons of this situation.

This was a revisit. I read this book upon release and loved it so much I had to add the audiobook. I prefer to purchase audiobooks from a select few narrators whom have the performance skills down. But I didn’t let that deter me this time.

Narrators:
This is a dual performance with dual points of view. Jennifer Mack is the female performer for Gwen’s character. While it’s part of Jennifer’s job to perform all the characters within her chapter I don’t mind her voice or tone when performing the other voices. However, Alexander Candese is the other performer in this story and I can’t get his voice and tone to settle in mind. He isn’t who I envisioned Folsom sounding like. I definitely was disappointed at the way he performed the female voices. Men suck trying to perform a softer sound. It sounds terrible.

Overall:
Usually an Audiobook enhances my experience after having read it prior to the release of the audiobook. In this case, I’m disappointed by the performance of both narrators. Neither blew me away. In fact, listening to Alexander performing female voices annoyed me.
