This first of two short stories is a prequel to a novel that delves into the world of big utilities, big coal, and the battle for green energy. It begins with a young coal miner from Kentucky who is taken under the wing of a wealthy industrialist who repays a long-overdue debt of gratitude to the young man's father. The transformation of the boy from a poor coal miner to a successful executive juxtaposes corporate bottom lines with his original Eastern Kentucky roots of humility and honesty.
