Description

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a Gothic novella by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, first published in 1886. The work is also known as The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It is about a London lawyer named Gabriel John Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. The novella's impact is such that it has become a part of the language, with the very phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" entering the vernacular to refer to people with an unpredictably dual nature: usually very good, but sometimes shockingly evil instead.

A very well narrated classic...

The story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is so well known that it probably doesn't need any introduction. It may not be as scary nowadays as it used to be when it was first published, but it still remains a great example of the 19th century Gothic literature, with partly epistolary/story-witin-a-story type of narration and some attempts at psychological insight into the behaviour of the main characters...

Narration by Mr Preece is very good indeed. It brings the story to life, adding a second layer of emotions to it and changing what for some may be a dated book into and exciting novella.

i was kind of bored

from movies and stories i have heard about Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde i expected it to be more scary. This one wasn't scary or spooky in the slightest. The way the book is written it's like a biography followed by an autobiography but with very little inflection. I don't know if back when this was first written that the whole unknown thing was more scary, but even though the base of a great spooky/scary story is there, now days it just isn't all the way "finished". The narrator did a great job!

A Great Classic!

I love this story! I don't think there's anyone living who doesn't recognize the title and what it represents so I'll just comment on the narration. Christopher Preece does an outstanding performance narrating this book. His accent is simply lovely and I really enjoyed listening to him. Mr. Preece does the voices very nicely and really adds to the listening experience.

Intriguing and Sad Classic

This was an excellent narration of the classic story of Dr. Jekyll. It's a shorter story then a thought but a lot of fun to listen especially with the help of the narrator's incredible accent and acting.

A classic dealing with the battle of good vs. evil. This book has stood the test of time. Christopher Preece delivered a fantastic performance. I would not hesitate to listen to more of his narrations.

The Unhappy Life of Henry Jekyll

The well know take of the good and evil with man. Told from the perspective of a friend of Jekyll’s Utterson, we gradually learn of the strange behavior of Jekyll and his connection with a disturbing Mr. Hyde.
It is at the end of the story we learn from Jekyll what has happened.
The story puts into thought that man is made up of both good and evil..land that the good wants to indulge in fun (the evil) but doesn’t want to be held accountable...until it gets out of control.
Love these classic stories that have been modernized and I can revisit them in their purity.
The narrator was perfect in every way..I’d listen to him anytime.
Revisit a classic..worth the time and cost.
