Description
Madison Spencer, the liveliest, snarkiest dead girl in the universe, continues the adventures in the afterlife begun in Damned. Having somewhat reluctantly escaped from hell, she now wanders the purgatory that is Earth as a ghostly spirit, seeking her do-gooding celebrity parents, fighting the malign control of Satan, recounting the disgracefully funny encounter with her grandfather in a fetid highway rest stop in upstate New York when she - oh, never mind - and climaxing in a rendezvous with destiny on the new, totally plastic continent in the Pacific called, not at all accidentally, Madlantis.
Dante Alighieri, watch your back. Chuck Palahniuk is gaining on you.

Too many mispronounced words
I hate to nitpick. I hate being that guy. But, who edits/ directs these things? Words are important. Important enough to me, anyway, to fork over money to you month after month. How can you let the dozens of mispronounced words pass in this thing? It is not the fault of the reader. Someone should have caught the mistakes and fixed them. Very distracting to asshats such as myself.

So Disappointing
Doomed is the sequel to Damned, the continued story of Madison.
This book was SO disappointing. I have loved Chuck Palahnuik's past works. From Fight Climb to Haunted, Choke, and Invisible Monsters, I have really treasured his books.
Doomed has SOME of the things that I love about Chuck, like the "ticks" he puts in his stories, his great writing rhythm, and his very dark humor.
What this story was missing was, well, an actual story. As the story begins, I was super excited to see what kind of trouble Madison was going to get into to, and then, nothing happened. You are introduced to a couple of characters that seems to have the capacity to drive the story forward along with Madison and then nothing happened with them either. There was very little interaction with them. The entire story goes back into Madison's past and she whines and bitches about everything that happened to her and how misunderstood she was.
It was bad, really bad.
I enjoyed the narrator, she was fun to listen to.
Sadly, I do not recommend this book.

Sick, Twisted and Darkly Hilarious
If you could sum up Doomed in three words, what would they be?
Read my title.
What other book might you compare Doomed to and why?
If you don't have a really twisted sense of humor you should move on. If you do and haven't heard or read the first book, Damned, then go get it and begin a journey to Hell...Palahniuk style.
What does Tai Sammons bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Tai Sammons IS Madison Spencer. She is the perfect, imperfect teenager voice of this character.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
You may feel the need to take a long shower to clean filth left on you in every chapter but at least you'll smell good.
Any additional comments?
Dear Gentle Tweeter....stop wasting my time and get this book for your eyes or for your ears. You'll need a stack of candy bars and sensible shoes to get through this.

Not as good as damned
This a sequel prequel. The story line was poor and the climax dull. Very disappointing as damned was a lot of fun. Doomed was tough to get through.

Interesting...even for Palahniuk
Before reading this book I had read numerous reviews about how disappointing it was, and that I should just skip it. Honestly there were points where the story seems to drag on, however one thing you need to remember is this book is part 2 of a trilogy (the 3rd book has yet to be written), and that everything Chuck writes has a purpose and will be revisited. In the end was this book my favorite...well, no. Was it my favorite Chuck book? Well, no again...however I can say this book is an interesting modern take on Dante Alaghieri's Divine Comedy (Damned was his take on inferno, and Doomed is his take on Purgatorio) and everything written was done so with purpose. I enjoyed the book and think it's worth a pass for any Chuck fan.

i liked Damned. i really like Tai's voice (the narrator). but Doomed... this i don't understand. i can't get my wits around the fact that Chuck could produce such a novel. really, how does someone let themselves go like this?
i'm sure the die-hard fans will still get the book despite the reviews, but they'll be disappointed. it's hard to put into words what is lacking from the story, i'm sure there are some other, more eloquent reviews that explain the story's issues. so i'll leave that to them.
for me, rite outa the gate i knew this book was gonna suck. but he really lost me when the 11yr old girl got her shirt ejaculated on after manually masturbating an old man through a glory hole in the men's room.
I've come to expect some crass from Chuck, about 1/2 his books have some rude sexual situations. but come on, 11yrs old is too much. this is not what i expect from him.
oh well. they can't all be zingers**
better luck next time.

This was a truly awful book.
It seemed like the author's main goal was to talk about as many dirty disgusting things as he could. It wasn't even funny.

Juvenile
Would you try another book from Chuck Palahniuk and/or Tai Sammons?
I would not try anything else narrated by Tai (see comment bellow)I would like to give Chuck a chance to redeem himself - I understand that his other books are better
What was most disappointing about Chuck Palahniuk’s story?
Juvenile and full of potty humor
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I wish the narrator would know how to pronounce foreign words and names of products properly such as Chivas, Gund and other words that were butchered in this reading
Any additional comments?
Fight Club is one of my all time favorite movies. I have not read the book but I cant believe the the same auther wrote Doomed - what a waste of time

Unexpected find
Would you listen to Doomed again? Why?
Yes, I would listen to it again. It is funny in a dark way.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Doomed?
I don't want to give anything away but her phone calls with Jesus was awesome! Love how she messes with her parents.
What does Tai Sammons bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is great. Up there with Marguerite Gavin. She really brings the characters to life. I will probably look for more things read by her.. just as I do with Marguerite Gavin.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Pretty much listened to it in two sittings, while I'm designing art work for murals and stuff.
Any additional comments?
I like books with a dark humor to them. This kind of reminded me of Christopher Moore books like Blood Sucking Fiend. It's got that kind of humor to it.

Not as good as Damned but still good
It was good but Damned was better. Its framed like a blog , which I didn't love, but without spoiling it gives you a new perspective on all of the characters from the first.
