    Description

A time bomb, waiting to go off....

Lucy Harris is on the run, not sure where she can turn to for help, or if help is even available. But even as her abductors chase her down, she realizes they don't just want to recapture her, they want to erase her.

When your very existence puts a planet at the risk of war, there's no choice but to do everything in your power to stay out of your enemies' hands.

A predator...waiting for the chance to pounce

The powerful AI battleship, Bane, is accompanying the United Council envoy to Tecra to mete out the punishment the Tecrans have earned for breaking UC law. He revels in the power he's about to have over his old masters. But his mission isn't only to rain down retribution on the people who kept him chained for years, he's also looking for a human woman his fellow Class 5 thinking system mentioned in the final seconds of his life. Paxe admitted to taking Lucy Harris from Earth, and Bane has been looking for her ever since.

    A warrior conflicted....

Commander Dray Helvan thinks the Grih made a mistake in not pushing for war with the Tecran, but he's had to accept the compromise, that he and the other envoys from the United Council will go to Tecra and dismantle its military from the top down. His mission is not one of his choosing, but when he and his team arrive, he's handed a very different job. While he distrusts Bane on principle, when the thinking system tells him there's a woman running for her life on the planet below, he will do whatever he has to to see her safe. And if that means war for Tecra, well, then it means war.

Note: Dark Matters can be listened to as a standalone novel but is part of a larger story arc in the Class 5 series.

    A Dream come true.

The Dark Horse series is the best sci fi/romance series I've ever found and I can't say enough good things about Michelle Diener's skill as a story teller. Her books flow from one to the next, but each has an ending of it's own. Dark Matters is no exception. What a great story! Dark Matter's is set on the Tekron world (a first), and we visit their culture as they go about their lives. We experience their weather and their belief system, too, and it's jam packed with action both on a Class 5 and on yet another Greion ship. The love story blossoms from the experience the two mains share as they struggle to survive on this strange world. It's the most edge of your seat action in any of the books, and that's saying a lot. I could not put it down! As an avid reader and audiobookphile, this isn't the first time I've contacted an author to beg them to continue a beloved series. (Juliet Marillier comes to mind for her amazing Blackthorn and Grim series -- unfortunately, she was in, but her publisher wasn't.) I contacted Michelle Diener a year or two ago, and begged her to do another novel in this fantastic series. I know I was not the only fan who did this, so I'm not taking any credit for my 'success," but I AM celebrating! What a fantastic book! I have loved and listened to this series several times, but it always felt as if there were a lot more books waiting to be written for this world, and here, at last, is at least one more! And best of all, it is absolutely fantastic and a worthy continuation of the first three amazing books of this series! I am SO grateful to Michelle Diener for her kindness and the fact that she granted her fans their fondest wish. I only hope this series continues, or even spins off! I really want to visit all of the home worlds of these fascinating cultures she has created, as well as read/listen to many more of her book series in the future. Speaking of listening, Christina Delaine is one of the best narrators I have ever heard and I have 3,000 audiobooks. Her male voices are so amazing and well done that I had to double check the first time I heard her to make sure there wasn't a male narrator who wasn't credited. It's kind of mind blowing how great she is and I am so grateful that she was available to read this fourth book. It makes listening to the series so much better with the same great narrator. I don't know how she does it, it seems like magic! This whole series is a treasure that should not be missed.! HIGHLY RECOMMENED: To sci fi lovers, lovers of romance, and anyone who just wants to hear a great story. You're in for a treat!

Thank God. other societies have Chocolate.

This and the first book are my favorites of the series. I loved the fact that we had more than just space ships as the location. There needed to be more of Bane involved in the story. Hopefully there will be more for this series in the future, but not sure where they could go with the story line. I wished that Michelle Diener had more books on Audible. Narrator is great.

    Need more of this genre!

Since I really enjoyed the premise of the first book in series, I went on to enjoy the more or less similar retellings through series. There is a overall arc of change that makes it best to start at the beginning though. This niche - whatever it is called, sci-fi romance or the PNR, not all dark and gory, but ultimately rooted in positivity - I thoroughly enjoy.

    For the fans?

I'm glad that Bane gets to save/rescue someone. But if this book is for the fans then it missed the mark. All loose ends should've been tide up.

Just as excellent as the previous installments!

This was so worth waiting for. Lucy is a wonderful heroine, and the plot is utterly immersive.

Great book and addition to the series

This book is best enjoyed if read in series sequence. Wow! Diener throws Lucy and Dray into one situation after another. Well written, well edited, believable storyline and characters set in the world Diener has created. Delaine does a decent job of narration. I happily recommend the whole series.
