Description

Renowned, best-selling novelist Chuck Palahniuk takes us behind the scenes of the writing life, with postcards from decades on the road and incredible examination of the power of fiction and the art of storytelling.

In this spellbinding blend of memoir and insight, best-selling author Chuck Palahniuk shares stories and generous advice on what makes writing powerful and what makes for powerful writing.

With advice grounded in years of careful study and a keenly observed life, Palahniuk combines practical advice and concrete examples from beloved classics, his own books, and a "kitchen-table MFA" culled from an evolving circle of beloved authors and artists, with anecdotes, postcards from the road, and much more.

Clear-eyed, sensitive, illuminating, and knowledgeable, Consider This is Palahniuk's love letter to stories and storytellers, booksellers and books themselves. Consider it a classic in the making.

Poetic Justice

It is almost surreal to listen to this book these days. Palahniuk has educated me as a reader and writer for years and now the totem manifestation of his world is here in audiobook and paper and ebook. Consider This is kind of like the fringe dimension of Stephen King's "On Writing," There were a couple of times when I was caught off guard, but it is chock-full of practical and useful writing advice. One wonderful thing about the anecdotes is they are based on true accounts, and they are there for a reason, not merely included for shock value, Chuck Palahniuk, the Portland Gentleman/Grandfathered in Anarchist. I will probably need to buy a physical copy so I can analyze lessons from Chuck and Tom and his friends, but it was an engaging listen and terrifically delivered.

best book on writing I've listened to

What can I say? Lots of tips, lots of stories. The struggles, victories, the highs and the lows. Worth your time, money and credit.

My new favorite book on writing

It’s so good just listen to it. It’s the most real I have seen an author get. It’s encouraging and filled with knowledge.

Enjoy!

worth $40k!!

I wish I had read this before going to college, it would have saved me $40,000+. I learned more from this book than from almost all of my college courses, combined.

Fantastic!

I heard about this book on J Thorn and J D Barker's podcast The Writer's Ink.
True to form, Palahniuk's advice is irreverent and counter-intuitive. I think that this will go down as one of the best writing books since Steven king's On Writing.

I have read a ton of writing advice books and this one stands out. One of the top writing books I’ve read.

A MUST for any kind of creative

After plowing through this, I would confidently add it to any required reading list for anyone interested in creating something. Palahniuk’s lessons intertwined with his stories resonate in such a profound way, and are invaluable. Simply a must!

A Fantastic Listen

Consider This is an amazing listen for anyone with any kind of writing aspirations. The advice given is clear and concise, and best of all, thoroughly entertaining. This book is a perfect follow up for anyone waiting who listened to and fell in love with Stephen King's On Writing and needed another memoir/ writing book that was as educational and enjoyable. My two cents; start with Stephen King's On Writing and follow up directly with Consider This. I only wish Consider This was twice as long. I can't recommend highly enough.
