Raw courage... sharp instincts... an innate sense of justice... Using the 19th century timeline as an instrument of magical realism, Chabelis accelerates the listener through the events that lead up to the Spanish-American War in the YA novel, Cimarrona.
Trained by the cimarron, the wild men who live in the hills of Cuba, to shoot her prey and lead trails of captive slaves to freedom, 12-year-old Chabelis is sent to a mission for killing one of her clan members. It is at the mission that Chabelis is once again faced with General Valeriano, the soldier who killed her mother right before her eyes. In this action-adventure, Chabelis must decide whether she will escape the fortress walls or will remain there long enough to help the innocent break out of the mission: a military post for the Spanish Infantry disguised as an orphanage.
