Description

In a world where vampires have conquered mankind, Turner West is the only thing they fear.

Threaded with silver through his body, he is a Bonemaker - a rare human who can Unmake vampires with a single cut of his blade. Crossing the prairie of what was once the United States, Turner will face a blood-crazed cult, a governor who wants power more than life itself, and a trio of beautiful women who will help him toward his ultimate goal: ridding the world of bloodsuckers.

There's just one problem. Turner's exploits have attracted a vampire so old, his very existence threatens what remains of the human race. Extinction is upon us.

Fun story, Good action.

Turner West is a bonemaker. With silver threaded throughout his body, he's a vampire killing machine, until he falls for one. Granted, Karina is a different kind of vampire, except for the still needs to kill to eat thing. So, not so different?

There's plenty of action in this and that and strong pacing carried me through the story. The world build is weak. There's this great premise with Turner West (cool name) being threaded up like Wolverine, gave him a cool moniker like bonemaker, and then explained precisely nothing about why or how that helps him kill vampires. Perhaps it keeps him from getting killed? Except it doesn't. They still chomp all over him at will.

And why does Karina need to kill to eat? She doesn't, because Turner feeds her, so why does she kill?

It's the kind of story that doesn't go too deep, but if you're looking for some light fantasy action, Bloodlands is right up your alley.

Vampire wild west with a little romance

Damnit it felt good. Like a cold shot of vodka through every sinew of his body, infusing him with a clarity and heighten awareness. Turner West is a bonemaker. He has sliver threads under his skin through his muscles and bones. With his favorite blade, Old Mary, he can unmake any vampire. It takes skill to fight a vampire and Turner has that in spades. The story opens with the action of Turner unmaking a vampire and it continues nonstop. Turner is funny, chivalrous, principled, and has a deep respect for life.

Turner and Seth get along well. They met up at an opportune time because Turner’s car died. Seth pretty much agrees with everything that Turner says. Seth holds up his responsibilities in the partnership; carrying supplies and being an alarm system. Despite Seth being a horse (an intelligent animal companion), he was good at knowing when danger was near.
Karina saved Turner’s life. He and Karina spend time discussing what is a person. Is it someone with hopes, fears, and memories? If you must drink blood to sustain your life does that exclude you from being a person?

Turner is funny. When Karina started to count things off on her fingers, he realized to late, they were having an argument. He had to find the correct face to defuse the situation.
• Face 1: concern interest
• Face 2: gently sincerity
• Face 3: drawing admiration
He picked the wrong face.

In this post-apocalyptic world vampires run rampant, and people live in fortified towns. Civilization died and lawlessness rule. Vampires are migrating to the south. There is an inexplicable force that is pulling the vampires to Him. Anything in their path that is not Him insights vamps into a frenzy killing. Vampire are flocking to his call across the country and leaving death in their trail. There are religious and political fractions that want to exploit the situation. Turner and Karina want to stop it. I had a few questions:

• Question: How do you keep a vehicle gassed in a post-apocalyptic world?
• Question: What does Turner do with the bones he collects and why does he take them?
• Question: What makes some of the vampires bestial?
• Question: How does bonemaker operate on any organizational level?
Is there a bonemaker for a specific area?
Why did Turner become a bonemaker?
Is Turner the last of his kind?
Don’t be mad at me now for asking the questions.

I enjoyed story enough to get the next book. I had too many unanswered questions that I could not give it a 5 star.

Blood, gory, and a ton of fun

Not your typical vampire book. It's darker, grittier, and far more interesting. The world building in this book is better than I expected, a fully realized system and world. I'm excited to see where the next one goes.
