À propos de ce contenu audio

From the #1 bestselling author of the Harry Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer series and who "is the master of the universe in which he lives" (Huffington Post), comes the gripping novel that inspired the film starring Clint Eastwood.

When Graciella Rivers steps onto his boat, ex-FBI agent Terrell McCaleb has no idea he's about to come out of retirement. He's recuperating from a heart transplant and avoiding anything stressful. But when Graciella tells him the way her sister, Gloria, was murdered, Terry realizes he has no choice. Now the man with the new heart vows to take down a predator without a soul. For Gloria's killer shatters every rule that McCaleb ever learned in his years with the Bureau-as McCaleb gets no more second chances at life...and just one shot at the truth.

This was a great discovery for me. I already enjoy the Michael Connelly universe, and this book brings something new even a bit feel-good in a way that’s hard to describe. Really pleasant and sunny ! The introduction of boat life adds a special atmosphere and depth to the story. And Terry McCaleb is a very interesting, charismatic character. I was surprised to learn that Clint Eastwood played him in the movie. Maybe it worked at the time, but personally, I didn’t picture Eastwood while reading, but that didn’t change the experience. The audiobook narrator is absolutely excellent, probably the best I’ve heard. He gives each character a distinct voice, uses tone and rhythm masterfully, even includes breathing and yelling where needed. He truly brings the story to life. The book itself is smart and well-constructed. You think you know where it’s going, but it avoids the obvious paths and stays clever. The investigation is complex, and it’s a pleasure to follow even if there is a lot of dead ends, just like in real life I guess. The only downside for me is the very end. It felt a bit off, like a sudden shift in tone or logic. After such a solid and intricate story, the resolution seemed too simple, almost rushed. Maybe the author didn’t have the perfect closure, or needed to wrap it up quickly. It’s a small letdown after such a strong buildup. Still, this is a great start to a new series. Terry McCaleb is a totally different kind of character from Bosch or Haller, with his own style, voice, and type of charisma. I really enjoyed diving into this new world, and I’m looking forward to more.

Another great series begins
