Description

A small Georgia town erupts in panic when a young college professor is found brutally mutilated in the local diner. But it's only when town pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton does the autopsy that the full extent of the killer's twisted work becomes clear.

Sara's ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, leads the investigation - a trail of terror that grows increasingly macabre when another local woman is found crucified a few days later. But he's got more than a sadistic serial killer on his hands, for the county's sole female detective, Lena Adams - the first victim's sister - want to serve her own justice.

But it is Sara who holds the key to finding the killer. A secret from her past could unmask the brilliantly malevolent psychopath.... or mean her death.

Sadly, a bit of a letdown

What did you like best about Blindsighted? What did you like least?

I thought the plot was a little cookie cutter, shallow and lacked anything that really made it stand out as unique.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

felt very Nora Roberts, I love her stuff but it is predictable, and follows a very specific formula.

Any additional comments?

I chose this one after reading Pretty Girls by the same author, which was an amazing book. I think this being one of the author's early works is just not quite up to par with where her later works are. I may continue with this series based on how good Pretty Girls was, but this book fell flat for me. The narrator was awesome, she is really enjoyable.

Great story- raw and amazing characters

What three words best describe Kathleen Early’s performance?

Crisp, good tempo

Any additional comments?

I started with Copland... Hated it and loved it simultaneously! The sexism and racism was weaved through the story in Ms. Slaughter's way, gave a glimpse of the past in a grisly reality. Read it twice before starting the rest of her books. This one did not disappoint!

One thing to note, chapter 15 is a repeat of the previous chapter. A sound edit mistake. Not a huge deal... Just needs a tweak. Otherwise it was perfect for me.

Gory But Good

I am a new reader to Ms. Slaughter. My sister mentioned I may like this series and she was right, I am really liking it. Although I think it is a series that begs to be read in order, there is so much going on with the characters, their families and their lives together, I think you would miss something by reading them out of order. I'm glad they are all still available.
With that said, I also want to point out that so far, the books I have read, are very graphic, so if you only like cozies, stay away.
I gave it a four for only one reason, I had the bad guy figured out right away, I mean I just knew from the first time the character was introduced. I still enjoyed the story very much, so I didn't let that stop me from listening, but I thought well this is a little too easy to figure out. It won't stop me from the next book.
So for anyone out their looking for a series to pick up they may have not read yet, I highly recommend this author. Oh and I understand she has another series with different characters, but I have not gotten to them yet. Just a matter of time!!

Another Gripping Grant County Mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely if they were into well written mysteries. Although there are some rather gruesome elements to the story that aren't for the sensitive. The writing is clean, crisp and the characters move the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wanted to.

Any additional comments?

Excellent narration by Kathleen Early. I've given up trying to figure out the correct order to these books. I'm just really happy when I come across one I haven't read or listened to before.

Gruesome mystery.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it's my first Karen Slaughter book and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a perfect mix of gruesome and mysterious.

The great start to the series

I have read Karin Slaughters, Will Trent series, and loved it. I was a little apprehensive about starting this series because I thought It may not be as good. Wrong, it was very good and will definitely be carrying on with the next book. Kathleen Early is an excellent narrator.

Wonderful thriller!

Blindsighted, released in 2001, was Karin Slaughter's first novel. The novel introduces podiatrist and sometimes coroner Sara Linton who appears as protagonist not only in the Grant County series but in most of the books in the Will Trent series. It also introduces Sheriff Jeffrey Tolliver who is both Sara's ex-husband and future husband. I am completing getting audiobook versions of all of Karin Slaughter's novels. She is one of my favorite authors.

Blindsighted was a blockbuster award winner that introduced Karin Slaughter to the world in 2001. It is just as good today.

Kathleen Early has narrated approximately half of Karin Slaughter's unabridged audiobooks. Her narrations are consistently excellent.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Actually, that's true of all of her novels.

Expected Better

For me this book was a mixed bag. I picked it up because I'd seen Gillian Flynn's comment on the front. Right away I thought "this must have been one of her earliest books. Flynn can't be talking about this book." Sure enough, this is the author's debut novel. I assume her work has improved with later books.

The main character didn't seem smart enough to be a doctor. Her lack of common sense and her pettiness with her ex were a turn off, and the way her back story was presented came off disjointed and random. I guess some of the extraneous info was to set up a series, but it felt out of place. The last 20% of the book did redeem itself for me enough to give it 3 stars. The author clearly has a head for crime writing, and I am not sure if I will read more of her books or not.

The narrator occasionally slipped into an annoying sing-songy cadence that I disliked, but her voices were well done. Overall, I'd probably recommend trying a book written later by this author as her skills must have improved over this debut novel.

Perfect!!!

The book was excellent and the narration brought it life! The characters are realistic and relatable and very, very human. I like that although Jeffrey and Sara had so many misunderstandings between them that they have a start to understanding each other and finding their way back inspite of past mistakes.
I really enjoyed the villain, the way the author did not shy away from the grisly descriptions. If you like chick lit with lots of sex and no real content, pass on this book!

spannend und super gelesen!

Optimaler Start für eine Krimiserie. Spannend vom ersten bis zum letzten Wort! Und die Sprecherin liest betont und verständlich. Man weiß immer sofort, welcher der Charaktere gerade spricht. Sie übertreibt aber auch nicht unangenehm. Werde die komplette Reihe anhören!

Disappointing

I felt that this book has a racist touch. In the beginning, somebody - possibly even a police officer - shoots his gun at the house of a black man, for no other reason than his colour. Instead of the inhabitant of the house, the chief of police, who is at the house at the same time, gets hit. However, the chief of police does not investigate any further into the incident, despite suspecting his fellow police officer to be the culprit. The black man decides to leave town and in the entire remaining book, the whole incident isn't mentioned ever again.

The anger I feel at this is not the description of this scene, but rather the message - apparently, to the author, shooting at somebody because of his race is not a crime at all.

Considering the amount of fans Karin Slaughter has, I find this worrisome and very disappointing.
