A burned-out PI is coaxed out of exile by the disappearance of a politician’s son and a heartbreaking cold case from his own past in a twisty thriller by the award-winning author of Secret Identity.

Forcing himself out of an emotional and professional downward spiral, private investigator and recovering alcoholic Pete Fernandez lies low in New York. Until a new investigation pulls him back to his hometown Miami to confront a cold case that has haunted him for nearly two decades.

It all starts when the wife of ambitious Florida senator Trevor McRyan hires Pete to find their missing son, Stephen, a young man with unsettling ties to Pete’s never-forgotten high school crush, Patty Morales. Her disappearance and brutal murder were never solved. But as Pete digs deeper, he uncovers a deadly conspiracy that puts him on a collision course with a political assassin and an insidious cult leader whose followers are every bit as dangerous.

Seeking justice for Patty and redemption for himself, Pete is at a crossroads—a chance to put the past to rest and turn his life around. All he has to do now is survive what’s coming next: the truth.
