Description
Benedict Fairburn does not quite need his ailing great-aunt's fortune, especially since he'll have to marry to get it. His family, however, thinks otherwise - as do many of the eligible ladies in London - and the pressure is mounting. An embarrassment of attentions fill Benny's time, but the young lady he prefers roundly dislikes him.
Claire Dalton, cousin to one of Benedict's oldest friends, is too busy debuting in Society to pay much attention to the Fairburn boy who once insulted her past bearing. He doesn't recognize her, but that's hardly upsetting, especially with the fetching Mr. Graham offering his arm.
Unfortunately, Mr. Graham is not all he seems, and each week brings a fresh disaster for Claire's first Season. It's enough to drive a young woman to distraction, especially since Benny Fairburn keeps behaving so very oddly. Concealed tragedy, poor orphans, a dotty great-aunt, deception and misunderstanding whirl in every direction, ready to explode.
Benedict and Claire are perfect for each other. Unfortunately, it may take catastrophe to make them realize as much....
The Lovelorn Lads: A man needs manners, if he is to marry.

Can we say socialist?
This story was ok. It was not what I would call well written, and definitely doesn’t keep one guessing. The socialist undertones and wealth shaming was annoying, and could have done without it. There is so much more to the world than “I hate you because you won’t give your inheritance to poor children.” Being wealthy doesn’t make you a bad person, it was very annoying that the author does not believe this. I hope the author donated any earnings for the writing of this book to the poor.

Great new Author and Series
Loved this clean, witty, comedic, romantic story! Can hardly wait for C.E. Murphy to finish her current projects and tell us more about the Lovelorn Lads and Worthington!

A bit of tepid reading
Overall, a companionable read/listen. I struggled a bit with the heroine Claire as I wondered at her very strong opinions which led to her lashing out (at first sight) rather frequently at Benedict and even going to the extent of intentionally being rude for what reason? I had no problem with her knowing her own mind just at her intolerance of one person while tolerating worse behavior from others. And this was not because she was smitten with him (poor excuse that it would have been). Additionally, listening felt a little bumpy in transitions which may be a function of the narrator or was it the writing. And the ending - fairly unbelievable in context of the times. Again, these were my mild struggles with the book and I did finish and did not skim so I conclude it was worth the listen while I did other tasks.

Never again narrator
The story is good, I loved the lads but the narration is simply horrible. One feels rushed through the sentences, strange pauses where none should be, missing cadence where it’s needed. This is the second book I’ve listened to with this narrator and *never* again! The voice is pleasing, but the way she rushes through things leaves you confused and having to go back to understand it fully. No, pass on this frustrating bit of fluff.

Delightful!
The story line was not surprising, but I confess I am a hopeless romantic. The performance was exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I look forward to the rest of the series with The Lads.

By the time things sorted out I wasn’t looking forward to it anymore
I was hoping for a bit of romance. Something. By the time the guy got the girl I was so over it and didn’t think he deserved her anyway. It was not romantic. At all. It was long winded then wrapped up too quickly. The narrator is wonderful and the writing paints a pretty picture, but otherwise I want those hours back.

A sweet regency romance.
I really enjoyed this book! It's a light hearted read that kept me listening until the end. Can't wait for more books for the series. Only complaint was that the narrator sounded more like a girl when reading for one of the lads.

An absolute delight.
I stopped writing reviews but stumbling on this book and finding it so surprisingly good urged me to put my two cents in. NEVER expected the book to be as good as it was. Loved the storyline and did not expect the ending to pan out the way it did. Thoroughly enjoyed it and now I can not wait for the rest of the books in this series. You can not go wrong listening to this since it’s an “included” book.

Good story, good narration.
Although this book started slow, the ending was worth the wait. The narrator is good, would listen to her again. All around a good read.

Way too millennial
This is so unrealistic. It was hard to finish once it got into the rich vs poor…give all your money away. No one owes anyone anything in life. Being charitable is always nice, of course, but feeling guilty because you’ve been successful is annoying.
