À propos de ce contenu audio
Nell Aldrin has three weeks to empty her late mother's house and sell it. She has avoided Quiet Close for years: seven houses on a dead-end street where everyone knows everyone's business, and where her mother, Joan, was trusted with every spare key.
In the hall she finds a locked box of keys, each with a tag, and a green ledger of favors given and favors owed. Every line has been squared off in red ink except the first, written the morning after an autumn night in 1994, when a young au pair named Katya Lind walked out of the Close and was never heard from again.
A note from Joan says to return the keys in person, and to ask first.
So Nell goes door to door, and behind each one she hears a different version of that night. The retired magistrate remembers a scandal. The brisk estate agent remembers nothing at all. The gentle widower remembers the frost. The couple next door have not agreed on what time anyone came home for thirty years. Each of them lies about something small. Together, the small lies make a wall.
With the sale closing on a Friday and a teenager's podcast stirring up the street, Nell must decide how hard to push the people who held her childhood together, and what to do when the truth turns out to be nearer, and quieter, than she ever wanted.
Quiet Close is a slow-burn domestic suspense about secrets, loyalty, and the cost of never asking.
