Why do we keep rooting for the little guy when the odds are stacked against them? In this episode of Couch Critics, Josh and Dave explore David vs. Goliath stories across cinema, from scrappy comedies and sports movies to gritty crime dramas, Westerns, horror, animation, and historical films.

They discuss underdog favorites including Three Amigos, Seven Samurai, Serpico, Norma Rae, and Erin Brockovich, while examining how systemic corruption, capitalism, resilience, and hope shape these stories. The conversation also travels through the stark artistry of The Great Silence and Yojimbo, the rough-edged power of gritty 1970s cinema, classic Westerns, international films, and crime movies from the 1930s through the 1950s.

Along the way, Josh and Dave compare British and American comedy, celebrate character actors like Garrett Graham, and consider why underdog heroes remain so compelling across genres and generations.

Press play for film recommendations, cultural detours, hidden gems, and a spirited conversation about the movies that remind us the system is not always unbeatable.
