A dry ticket spool beside a man soaked through with dew became the single contradiction that cracked a case: a body found at the Starlight Drive-In with tickets numbered 1602-1831 dry, while the victim’s clothes were wet from overnight dew recorded between 2-4 AM. Who convinced a consistent, 61-year-old payroll man with a lifelong routine to be in a locked drive-in lot late at night?
In this episode, you will hear the sequence of discovery, the accountings that mattered, and the small discrepancies that led Detective Amanda Holt to count and confront missing pieces of evidence - and the question this raises about who brought Kent Becker to that lot and why.
Person: Kent Becker
Date: June 9, 1953
Location: Starlight Drive-In
Detective: Amanda Holt
Cause of death: blunt-force trauma to posterior skull
- Body found face-down between speaker posts seven and eight at approximately 7:15 AM by 14-year-old Gregory Pruitt.
- Ticket spool beside Becker’s left hand contained tickets numbered 1602 through 1831 and was completely dry.
- Maren Valley Agricultural Station recorded overnight dew beginning between 2:00 and 4:00 AM.
- Saturday roll mechanical counter showed 340 tickets sold starting at 1511, indicating tickets through 1850 had been issued.
- Sixteen stubs (1832 through 1850) were missing from the sequence and not recovered from the booth, gate trash, cars, or pockets.
