Every angler has a water that shapes them. For some it’s a carp lake in France. For others, a Scottish loch. For me, it’s 5 miles of man-made, boat-bothered, sometimes maddening canal between Exeter Quay and Turf Lock.
I didn’t choose the Exeter Canal. It chose me. It was close to home in Honiton, cheap to fish, and open all year. What started as convenience became obsession. Because this canal doesn’t give up its fish easily. It makes you earn them.
This book is the result of 20 years of blanks, breakthroughs, and learning to read a water that changes every day. It’s for the method feeder angler who wants to hit that far-bank reed to the inch. It’s for the matchman who needs to turn a ‘nowhere’ peg into a section win. It’s for anyone who’s ever looked at a flat, featureless canal and wondered, ‘where do I even start?’
