When Reese Adams, a down-on-his-luck man living in the decaying city of Greswick, discovers an ancient, cursed parchment known as the "Ledger," his life takes a terrifying turn. The artifact promises to grant any desire, but it demands an impossible price: a soul for every wish fulfilled. As Reese and his friend Pedro use the Ledger to amass a fortune, the artifact’s influence begins to hollow them out, physically and spiritually transforming the world around them into a landscape of rot and shadows. The story follows their descent into madness and greed, as they are hunted by an obsessive investigator, Agent Kelly, who realizes that the strange, localized disasters occurring across the city are linked to the Ledger’s dark accounting. Ultimately, the Ledger is a parasitic entity that cycles through owners, consuming their lives and leaving behind only a trail of gray ash and shattered reality, waiting for its next victim to reach out and claim a wish.
