WOUB’s first podcast, Spectrum, celebrates its tenth-year anniversary with the launch of a new season. Spectrum started in June 2016 and has already produced 272 episodes that are archived at Apple Podcasts, the NPR Podcast Directory and at https://woub.org/tag/spectrum/.

To launch its new season, host Tom Hodson has a conversation with Dr. Geoffrey Dabelko, a professor in the Environmental Studies Program at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Services at Ohio University. Dabelko also serves as the Sustainability Hub Coordinator at Ohio University. He is an internationally known expert on climate change, climate change policies, and environmental security. They discuss Trump gutting of governmental regulations and environmental oversight that directly impacts climate change.

Dabelko also decries this administrations attack on science and fact-based data concerning climate change. On an international level, he expresses his concerns about the United States withdrawing from Paris Climate agreement and the Climate Change Treaty.

Dabelko also discusses his new emphasis in researching the impact of climate change on an aging population. He is striving to help build resilience for older adults and to help them make adaptations to extreme climate change events like record-breaking heat, stronger storms and catastrophic flooding. He announces a launch of a multidisciplinary webinar series “Building Resilience for Older Adults in a Changing Environment, in partnership with Project ECHO.

The webinars will begin Sept. 23 from noon to 1 p.m. and there will be one such webinar each month for the next six. The webinars are also supported by the Grey Green Alliance and the Age-Friendly Innovation Center at The Ohio State University.

The webinars are intended for researchers and practitioners in health, gerontology, social work, social services, community development, emergency preparedness, planning, climate resilience, sustainability, hazard migration, and disaster risk management. They are free to anyone.
