One month after the fall of Riverrun, Forgefang rules Skycrown Peak with an iron claw.

Across Drakona, war ignites. The Earthshaper Fiefdoms rally beneath the High King's banner, the Firebreather colonies rise to reclaim their ruined homeland, and the Ironscale Empire braces behind the impenetrable walls of Fort Riverbreak. If the united armies are to advance on Ferum, both Riverbreak and Skycrown Peak must fall, and the burden of making that possible falls to two young princes.

Pike must journey to the Cloudseeker capital and secure their long-awaited alliance. Ash must return home to the Shadowglades and win the loyalty of the elusive Shadestalker tribes.

But Ash carries a heavier burden than diplomacy. Everyone has written Forgefang off as a monster beyond saving. Everyone except her brother. And with the armies of Drakona running out of time, the sacrifice victory demands may be the one thing Ash cannot give.

For in the end, it is not fire and claw that will decide the future of Drakona. It is one dragon's unshakeable belief that no one is beyond saving. That is the hope that will save The Broken Kingdom.
