Description

Audible narration by Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld)

On the eve of Earth’s destruction, a young scientist discovers something too precious to lose, in a story of cataclysm and hope by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Divergent trilogy.

It’s only two weeks before an asteroid turns home to dust. Though most of Earth has already been evacuated, it’s Samantha’s job to catalog plant samples for the survivors’ unknowable journey beyond. Preparing to stay behind and watch the world end, she makes a final human connection.

As certain doom hurtles nearer, the unexpected and beautiful potential for the future begins to flower.

Veronica Roth’s Ark is part of Forward, a collection of six stories of the near and far future from out-of-this-world authors. Each piece can be read or listened to in a single thought-provoking sitting.

Commentaires

"Narrator Evan Rachel Wood portrays Samantha in a soft, resigned tone that fits a story in which humanity has already been through the painful grieving process and has settled into a somber acceptance of its fate...it’s the gentle emphasis Wood gives to the connections between humans that makes this audiobook such a compelling listen." --AudioFile magazine

"…A sensational project...." --Spine Magazine

“This is exactly how I like my techno-anxiety.... Happy bingeing!” --Audible, an October Editors Pick

Couldn’t Finish

Slow and boring! The narrator’s voice was so slow it could have put me to sleep. With 20 minutes left, I was so irritated I just abandoned it. I don’t know how it ends, and I really don’t care! Hoping the others in this series are better than this one.....😴😑

OMG let me save you an hour of your life

this is not a spoiler because this story is horrible. it's the end of the world and humanity has evacuated to another planet at the last minute someone discovers a new flower the end. how does garbage like this get curated? is it the idea of curating to select good stories for a collection? dammit?

Good, but nothing special

I enjoyed listening to this book. I especially recommend it to anyone who is interested in flowers. the narrative was pleasant, but there was little driving the plot forward. I would be interested to explore other books by this author.

Uhm... no

It was slow, I had to bump it up to 1.5 to get through it, in pacing and in performance. I am not sure how this story got included the set as I did not see a bit of tech that went awry. If it wasn’t free I would return it.

It was good

It was a cute will story. Explores the theme of loss and what there is to live for over the motif of the world about to end. Simple and enjoyable. The performance was solid.

A jewel of a story

A delicate, precise narrative read with sensitivity and grace. Set against epic change, this is a beautifully personal and intimate portrait. Highly recommended.

A beautifully written short story of the end.

I listened to Ark back on the day it was released and I enjoyed it. Listening to it again many months later and I love it. Veronica Roth's vivid descriptions and deep thoughts on the end of the world are beautifully dark. This story is worth every minute.
