Eleanor is the new girl in town, and she's never felt more alone. All mismatched clothes, mad red hair and chaotic home life, she couldn't stick out more if she tried. Then she takes the seat on the bus next to Park. Quiet, careful and - in Eleanor's eyes - impossibly cool, Park's worked out that flying under the radar is the best way to get by. Slowly, steadily, through late-night conversations and an ever-growing stack of mix tapes, Eleanor and Park fall in love. They fall in love the way you do the first time, when you're 16, and you have nothing and everything to lose.

I hate you, Fuller James. I hate your floppy hair and your lopsided grin and those laughing blue eyes that always seem to be laughing at me. I hate that you're the most popular guy in school and I'm still the girl who sneezed and spit out her retainer on someone at a middle school dance. It's just such a cliché. I hate that I'm being forced to tutor you in English and keep it a secret from everyone. Because otherwise it might put our basketball team's chances at winning State in jeopardy, and even though I hate you, I love basketball.

Description
A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she's been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.
In her signature pitch-perfect style, Sarah Dessen explores the hearts of two lonely people learning to connect.

Not a romance story
The description of this book led me to believe it was a romance. Not even close. It's about a girl coming to grips with her parent's divorce and their new relationships. Just when I thought the romance might build- I was let down. There is little to no description of characters so it was impossible for me to visualize them.
The narrator has a squeaky voice. And, like another reviewer mentioned, takes awkward pauses. Not just in dialogue, but at random times. I thought it was the end of a chapter a couple times.
I wish I hadn't wasted my credit on this pick.

Not Just "Chick-Lit"
I've read several books by Sarah Dessen, and this one is my favorite so far. The main character, Auden, is smart, and I love intelligent female characters. She's decided to spend the summer between graduation from high school and her first year at college with her father in a beach resort town. This new location and the people who come into her life there make this summer one of change and transition for Auden. Usually a loner, she starts to reach out and make friends, including a boyfriend. She's forming new relationships with her stepmother and step sister. Most important, she's confronting her own feelings about her parents' divorce.
This book has realistic characters and situations. It gets the reader to consider relationships among family members and friends, as well as how people can or cannot change.

Great book, pretty good narrator
This is turning out to be a great book. I haven't finished it yet but I had to write a review because of the narrator. The narrator is great but when she does dialogue sometimes she makes these long pauses when she switches characters. I keep thinking the audio is cutting out. It is kind of annoying but otherwise the narrator is really good and the book is fun to listen to.

Great in conjunction with reading for saving time
I used the audiobook to help me finish the book within a day. For that purpose it was good. The narrator is “cuter” than I would have casted, but I grew to like her voice. The pauses in the recording should have been edited out for sure. Nice story and characters and I really liked the experience of reading and listening to this book! Made me want to read more of Sarah Dessen.

Took a while to settle into the narrator
The story was, as usual, well done, difficult & painful. I had trouble with Ms Botchan's reading as I found it sounding a tiny bit too young for the MC (but I did get used to it so that's probably on me). The primary issue I had was the cadence. The pauses were at times, seeming inappropriate & most definitely WAY too long for the most part. However, this book is well worth the read, be it print or aural.

Great
This is an old favorite of mine from high school and it definitely held up. The narrator’s voice fit the story perfectly and didn’t distract at all.

A feel good original
I enjoyed the story, the character is very likeable, and encounters a lot of social problems in her life. A great perspective on people who have no social instincts and seem to be conceited. 9/10, would read again (the reader for this book sounds exactly like Mika kunis)

Pretty Good
I loved the story and the voice was pretty clear, but like many audio books, it was far too slow. I sped it up to 1.25x speed, but any slower was too slow and any faster distorted the voice. I had to read this for a book project and I waited for the last minute, so listening for 12 hours as I multitasked got fairly repetitive and annoying. Lol.
