Nine-year-old Carol O’Brian wakes one morning to discover her world has been altered. Where she had once been abused by her tyrannical father, family life was now the warm and nurturing environment she should have had. Bewildered by the changes, she nonetheless resolves to find her place in her new life, even if it means giving up one of the few bright lights of her previously bleak existence. Now, over 20 years later, she and her sisters embark on an over-due road trip that takes them farther than they ever could have imagined.
The three sisters find themselves allied with a mysterious stranger, a doppelganger, and an ancient vessel that very well may be the oldest thing ever known - all of them entangled in an endless game of resistance against overwhelming odds.
