After a difficult childhood in early 1900s Chicago, Henry Ross goes in search of a home, a place where he is accepted and feels like he belongs He finds that home in England, where he marries and starts a family. But when World War II breaks out, Henry's world is torn apart.
Feeling lost and distraught, Henry sets out to reclaim his life and his home. But with German bombs falling all around him and callous opportunists threatening to steal what little he has left, Henry must find the strength to move forward and find the home that has evaded him for much of his life.
Will Henry find the place where he belongs, or will he be left to endlessly search for his elusive home?
