    Description

It's 1953 in Red-baiting, blacklisting Los Angeles, a moral tar pit ready to swallow Easy Rawlins. Easy is out of "the hurting business" and into the housing (and favor) business when a racist IRS agent nails him for tax evasion. Special Agent Darryl T. Craxton, FBI, offers to bail him out if he agrees to infiltrate the First American Baptist Church and spy on alleged communist organizer Chaim Wenzler. That's when the murders begin....

I Did Not See That Coming

Walter Mosely did it again. Only, I was not sure who the killer was. And I am shocked at Easy’s behavior! I felt like Easy was very reckless this story. He seemed to not care whether he lived or died. I cannot say much without giving it all away. But, Michael Boatman did another fantastic job. He truly brings Easy Rawlins to life. His smooth laidback manner feels infectious and annoying. But you love it either way. He a listen. You are never let down with an Easy Rawlins Mystery.

Easy Rawlins is also an easy listen.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Red Death to be better than the print version?

Don't know, listened didn't read it, so cannot say which is better. But I liked the narrator's voice in my head better than I like the one in mine.

What did you like best about this story?

Good plot, well written, gets the social divide between ethnicities, the police and the American class structure pretty well - especially for the time period this book is set in.

Have you listened to any of Michael Boatman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes and equally good. I'll be looking for his narrations.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, wish I could have.

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this book and the Easy Rawlins series!

    Captivating

I always enjoy a Walter Mosley novel. He describes each person so that you believe you know them. Michael Boatman brings EZ to life.

    Gripping and well done!!

Walter Mosley out did himself with Red Death. The perfect mixture of suspense and drama in a period type Afro Centric "Who Done it"!!! If you were not completely enthralled with the adventures of Easy Rawlings and his unique castt of Friends than you will be after reading "Red Death"!
