    Avis de l'équipe

Dr. Bill Creasy of Logos Bible Study uses a literary, historical approach to examine and enliven the bible for modern listeners. Dr. Creasy draws on his studies, travels, and personal anecdotes to depict a vivid picture of the works of scripture. Somewhere between a sermon and a college lecture, he delivers these audiobooks with authority but a pleasantly friendly voice and a touch of fun, using contemporary references.

Here he discusses First Corinthians, the seventh book of the New Testament. He describes the context of Paul’s journeys and the church at the city of Corinth. Paul wrote his epistles to Corinth in order to address concerns he had with what he saw as problems with their church. This is an engaging lesson on Paul’s principles.

    Description

Paul spends 18 months in Corinth, A.D. 50-52. In Paul’s day, Corinth was a double seaport town on the isthmus linking the Peloponnesian Peninsula to the mainland of Greece. It was a wealthy city and home of the Temple of Aphrodite, the goddess of erotic love. In classical Greek drama, a play’s whore is often known as "the Corinthian girl". Such is the notorious immorality of Corinth.

For Paul, Corinth was nothing but trouble. In the winter of A.D. 54, a delegation from Corinth arrives in Ephesus to meet with Paul. They inform Paul that the church in Corinth has (1) developed factions and divisions among the believers, and that (2) believers are suing one another in the secular courts, and that (3) rampant sexual immorality is spreading throughout the church. In 1 Corinthians Paul addresses each of these issues, and then in chapter seven, he goes on to address a series of questions presented to him in a letter delivered by the delegation. Paul’s responses are blunt and not particularly kind: he tells the people of Corinth to stop being such big babies and to “grow up”! Listen to Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy as he explores Paul’s response to a church rife with rebellion, division, immorality, and gross misuses of God’s gifts to his people.

Learn WHY to Believe in our Resurrection, too.

Learn HOW we will become absent from the Body, yet Present in the Lord. Bill Creasy teaches it best !

    Always good

I always tried reading the Bible, but it's hard to get through much less feel like I'm understanding the word/literature context & intention. I started with Creasy's one year Bible and found it so insightful, easy to understand, and it made me feel so connected to my beliefs in a way I didn't realize I was missing. I was so delighted by it that I decided to complete the Bible chapter by chapter through Logos, and am very happy I made that decision. I don't think I have ever felt as if I had a good grasp on the Bible until now, and am eager to continue learning and connecting. Definitely would recommend the Logos audiobooks to anyone looking to study and become familiar with Scripture and Spirit.

    Reviewing not just 1 Corinthians

I have only listened to Bill’s teaching concerning Paul’s writings. I’m considering getting his other teaching books. However, I think Bill repeats himself often enough so I am confident on his theology. Bill is very well grounded on the gospel. However, most of the time, he will define it as who Jesus is and what Jesus did. I remember one time when Bill clarifies that the good news is specific to Jesus’ death burial and resurrection. Most references to the gospel are very generic ‘what he did’.
Overall, Bill’s teaching lines up with the Bible. And, I recommend him as a teacher. With that said, he intentionally overlooks certain major points. And, when he stresses those points, it really irritates me.
First, Bill uses Peter’s definition of an Apostle instead of the criteria Jesus used.
Second, Bill ignores Paul telling the churches that he is in chains. Bill says that Paul was free.
Third, Bill believes that Paul’s position in the legal system is of Paul’s own making with little consideration for the two years that Paul was in jail prior to appealing to Caesar.
Fourth, Bill seems to consider the rapture of the church as part of Jesus’ second coming. The way he supports that belief is by disregarding any scripture that doesn’t support his viewpoint.
Lastly, Bill doesn’t explore what Paul calls a mystery. For many, Paul preached a different gospel than the 12 because the risen Lord taught Paul things that the 12 were not ready to understand. Therefore, Bill’s perspective is slightly off especially when it comes to distinctive differences between the four gospels and the books penned by Paul.
But again, Bill is very accurate on most of what he teaches. So, I believe my time was well spent listening to this series of books.

    Another great lecture

I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Creasy and his lectures. He’s engaging, funny and has keen insights into the Bible. As a church staff leader this is the best continuing education money can buy.

Bill is the best way to kill your faith.

There are so many points I disagree with Bill. His opinions unfortunately outweigh his facts. His facts are informative but once I found other Bible teachers I can no longer tolerate his watered down opinions of biblical truth.

Every one should listen to this series!

I’ve been an audible listener for about 6 years. In that time I’ve listened to about 10 months of time. I
This series is absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend starting with Genesis.

    scathing rebuke to the Corinthians

It was interesting to find out that this epistle was really a scathing rebuke to the Corinthians. I'm glad to understand the background to the letter at it puts the letter in perspective. It also reminds us how Christians role in the family of God. Dr. Creasy pointed out the the "women shouldn't speak in church was specific to Corinthians" and there were women in leadership roles in other churches which paul didn't have a problem with.
