ENCOUNTERING JESUS

What happens when serving Jesus begins to make it harder to simply be with Him?You pray. You serve. You show up. You care for others, attend church, carry responsibilities, and sincerely desire to live faithfully before God. From the outside, your spiritual life may look healthy. Yet somewhere beneath all that faithfulness, you are tired. Not tired of Jesus. Just tired. In Luke 10, Martha welcomes Jesus into her home, then finds herself "distracted with much serving." What begins as an expression of love slowly becomes a burden. While Jesus is near, Martha becomes consumed by everything she believes must be done for Him.The Better Portion is a short, contemplative Christian living book for faithful believers who have become spiritually weary while doing good things. Through a gentle exploration of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38–42, it uncovers the subtle ways service can become striving, responsibility can become identity, and devotion can quietly become performance. This is not another call to try harder, organize your spiritual life better, or add more disciplines to an already crowded day. It is an invitation to return. To listen again. To remember that before Jesus asks for your hands, He desires your heart. Rediscover the beautiful truth Martha was invited to receive: the deepest rest is not found when everything is finally finished. It is found in the presence of Christ. If your hands have remained faithful while your soul has grown weary, come back to the feet of Jesus. The better portion still remains.
