Born in 1923 in Buffalo, New York, Robert Joseph Hirsch, nicknamed "The Blonde Bombshell" for his dominating play as a Cornell football lineman, lived a remarkable life of valor and achievement. This intimate biography by retired Marine Colonel Daniel Hunter Wilson chronicles Bob’s journey from a South Buffalo youth, excelling in sports, to a World War II hero and influential civic leader. At 18, inspired by his older brother’s example, Bob joined the Army Air Corps.

Colonel Dan Wilson’s story is a classic example of gross military injustice. His thirty-nine year career spanned the Cold War through defeating ISIS and everything in between from 1981 to 2020. He was a “Mustang” Marine infantry officer with eleven overseas deployments into danger zones, and multiple combat tours. Leading Marines during combat operations, he was repeatedly shot at, mortared, rocketed, even surviving a “friendly” fire incident in Kuwait, during Desert Storm.

The Battle of Fallujah, Part Two, kicked off in November of 2004, right after the U.S. Presidential elections. It was the most intense battle since the battle for Hue City in the Vietnam War. It was a combined and joint operation with the Army's Black Jack Brigade and Iraqi forces participating. Col Dan Wilson, USMC, participated in the battle, and wrote an article shortly afterwards at the behest of his Commanding General, LtGen John Sattler.
