In the first of this collection of 10 short stories, Jeeves takes office in the Wooster household in the midst of an imbroglio concerning Bertie's imperious fiancé, Lady Florence Cray, and the manuscript of his uncle's scandalous memoirs. And soon, the incomparable manservant becomes a fixture, hauling the young master, and his equally mentally negligible friends, out of the soup on both sides of the Atlantic, despite the snooterings of assorted aunts, uncles, and parents, the fearsome Sir Roderick Glossop - or even a school full of 'spirited' young ladies....

The complete career of the immaculate Psmith! First, as a fellow lost lamb with cricket prodigy Mike Jackson at Sedleigh school; then shaking up the world of commerce in his genial efforts to reform boorish bank manager Mr. Bickersdyke; and later converting twee family periodical "Cosy Moments" into a crusading yellow journal, in pursuit of the bashful owner of New York's notorious Pleasant Street tenements. In Ukridge, the inimitable Wodehouse gives us 10 stores from the early career of Stanley Featherstonehaugh Ukridge: great brain, eternal optimist, perpetually on the very verge of making a massive fortune from his latest get-rich-quick scheme, and, according to his friend and chronicler long-suffering writer "Corky" Corcoran, more or less of a foe of the human race. Ukridge is the longest-serving of all Wodehouse's heroes, appearing in stories across 60 years.

First published in nine volumes over the years from 1759 to 1767, The life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman is a, comic, bawdy, humorous, satirical novel. It purports to be the autobiography of Tristram Shandy beginning at his conception but, famously, Sterne's egoistic character digresses and side-tracks the listener with so many colorful observations of his family and cast of supporting characters that his birth doesn't take place until Vol 3.

Pangloss would have been right at home in a post-truth, social media world. You can imagine the tweets, “I was hanged and survived #soggyrope,” or, “#nosyphilisnochocolate.” Candide, written in 1759, was never more relevant than today. Blind obeisance and denial, barbarous villainy...
