First published in 1925, The Everlasting Man is in many ways a direct rebuttal to H.G. Wells’s The Outline of History, wherein he states that man is merely a development from animal life, and that Jesus was just a charismatic figure. Although a popular secular idea at the time, Chesterton believed otherwise.
