The Children are settling into their new lives, but unexpected expenses are piling up with the babies’ milk and diapers, and the electricity bill on the rise as the brunt of winter inundates them. Everyone is doing what they can to pitch in, working extra shifts and doing whatever it takes to keep their heads above financial waters, to the point where K8 is contemplating using her ability to split in two to do double the work. But how much longer can they keep it up? When K8 is approached by a publisher to tell the Childrens’ story, she’s hesitant to trust the guy, but she likes the idea.

Three hundred years in the future, mankind still is trying to survive the Great Collision that changed the earth forever. People live in pockets of civilization called compounds, battling the elements and the mutations which have developed over the centuries, trying to live and survive day by day. Yulen D’Jacques is the Battle Lord of Alta Novis. His duty is to keep his compound and his people safe, which means yearly sweeps of the area to remove any mutated men and animals from encroaching.

He was one of thirty-one aliens who had landed on this remote world and dispersed among the populace, unidentifiable because of their shape-shifting abilities. Jebaral had hoped for a life. A chance to be free after escaping years of slavery and cruelty. But when he met Hannah Pitt, there was no way he could turn away from her or from the feelings she evoked in him. But neither could he accept her offer of a future filled with laughter and promise. After all, she was human; he was nothing remotely human.

Nurse Ivy Domberg, along with the rest of the world, watched as the Magellan spacecraft launched into space for a top-secret mission to the moon. She would miss her husband while he was gone, but he’d be back before she knew it. No one expected those two short weeks to turn into years. Every five years, Yulen D’Jacques, Battle Lord of Alta Novis, holds a conference to continue strengthening relations between the Normals and Mutah. Both battle lords and Mutah councilmembers from far and wide are invited in an effort to prove how important they could be to each other, and to dismiss any misconceptions Normals may still have toward the people they once considered their inferior enemies.

Things have been quiet on Neverwylde, but everyone has been busy. With a new group of research scientists sent to spend the next six months on the planet, their goal is to learn and document as much as possible to classify the alien world as a 2A planet. But things never go as planned on this still wild and unknown galactic anomaly. Dox has a one-track mind, but that’s normal for his kind. Being an isotope baby, he was specifically created to be highly intelligent, often found working on inventions, and rarely speaking beyond a couple words.

On a half-world filled with danger and deception, the only thing keeping them sane and safe was their love. They were no longer Terran and Seenecian. They were brothers-in-arms, fighting against a common foe. With all-new obstacles to face—a new climate, new enemies, and new personal issues for Kelen—the crew has their work cut out for them in this new territory. Already beaten down and broken, their food and water rations dwindling, and constant, nonstop attacks, it’s only a matter of time before they’re defeated.

Author Henry Elder came to Alta Novis to learn more about the fabled battle lord and his lady. But rather than re-tell the tales of their already well-known exploits, he wants to hear about the couple from the people who really know them. The people who live, love, interact, and fight alongside with them. He wants to hear those personal anecdotes in order to discover a side of Yulen and Atty that few people know.
