It's the summer solstice weekend, and 150,000 people have descended on a farm in the northeast of England for an open-air music festival. Reporting on the event is journalist Zoe Meadows, who files her copy from a food van run by her friends Sam and Lisa. When some of Sam's customers get sick, it looks like food poisoning, and it's exacerbated by the mud, rain and inadequate sanitary facilities. It's assumed to be a 24-hour thing until people get home and discover strange skin lesions, which ulcerate and turn septic. More people start getting ill - and dying.

Poland, 1942. Chaya is a seventeen-year-old daydreamer whose life is turned upside down when the Nazi regime invades her home. When her father and brother are brutally murdered, she and her mother are banished to the ghetto. When all the Jews of the ghetto are instructed to round up at the front gate, Chaya and her mother fear that the end is near. But miraculously, Chaya manages to slip away, escaping from the ghetto unseen. She wanders from hiding place to hiding place, suffering many hardships, assisted by good people who are willing to risk their lives to ensure her safety.

Paris, 1941. At the height of World War II, young and headstrong Josephine Portier is the protégé of a wealthy family in the highest echelons of Paris society. When she meets the arrogant but handsome Gabriel, she wants nothing to do with him—until he reveals a shocking secret about her adoptive family that puts her in grave danger. With her life turned upside down and the Nazi forces ever advancing, Josephine finds a new calling when she joins the French underground Resistance. Her dislike for Gabriel soon flourishes into love, but their romance is short lived.
